Replay A/V Press Release
New Streaming Media Recorder Captures Limitless Internet Audio and Video Channels
SAN ANSELMO, CA - March 30, 2006 - Applian Technologies, a global leader in streaming media recording technologies, today announced Replay A/V version 7, an all purpose streaming media recorder for capturing and archiving the most popular forms of audio and video found on the internet.
Replay A/V is the first software package to capture online media using both Audio Recording and Stream Capture technologies. This allows customers to capture any audio format, as well as the most common streaming video formats. When using Stream Capture, customers are able to record as many as fifty simultaneous broadcasts with perfect quality reproduction.
Replay A/V is also the first-ever recording product to automatically convert streamed Windows Media™ and Real™ format audio to MP3 files, which is essential for supporting popular MP3 players like the iPod™.
Replay A/V 7 includes the following benefits:
- Capture streaming video and audio from Windows Media™, Real™, Flash™, Shoutcast™, iTunes™ Radio and other formats.
- Capture Podcasts.
- Record Sirius™ and XM Radio™ Online.
- Record clips instantly, or schedule recordings.
- Integrated Replay Media Guide™ contains thousands of pre-programmed radio shows, stations, Podcasts and TV stations for one-click scheduling and recording.
- Full iPod™ support, including automatic conversion to iPod Audiobook format.
- Makes MP3 files and burns CDs.
"Replay A/V is the realization of our vision for creating the ultimate streaming media recording system", said Bill Dettering, CEO of Applian Technologies. "Rather than having to own several different utilities for audio recording, stream capture, and MP3 conversion, Replay A/V brings together everything people want to do in a consistent, easy-to-use yet powerful way. The customer response to Replay A/V has been overwhelming."
Replay A/V is available for download and immediate purchase from the Applian Technologies web site at applian.com, or from replay-av.com, for $49.95. A free demo is also available. Replay A/V requires a PC running Windows 98, 2000, NT, XP or 2003.

DRM has deep flaws...
... but we already knew that, right? Now a researcher comes up with the same conclusion.
It's the business models that need changing, according to this article in PC World.
Make those downloadable songs $0.25, and easy to use and transfer, and there won't be any issues any longer.

Radio on your iPod
I have a Sirius Radio in the family minivan, which I enjoy. For me, one of the nice things is that there's a lot of variety, and you can see what song you're listening to.
However, it never ceases to amaze me how much money they've put into developing their service. It ain't cheap to launch a satellite.
It's even more amazing to consider that we've built a better music listening system using Replay A/V and the iPod. In just a few days.
With Replay A/V 7.10, you now have the ability to record iTunes and Shoutcast stations and create an MP3 file for each song. Plus, the songs are tagged with the artist and song title, so you can see what you're listening to. You can even drag and drop iTunes radio stations into Replay A/V and have then recorded to your iPod for listening on the go. I have my iPod set up to get fresh music periodically from some really cool stations.
So... what are the benefits of Replay A/V + iPod over Sirius or XM?
- No subscription fees.
- You can skip over songs you don't like.
- You can replay a song you enjoy.
- Perfect Quality of Service. Your listening isn't interrupted when going into a garage, through a tunnel or under an overpass.
- You have access to thousands more stations.
If you want live traffic, weather or news, then satellite or traditional radio is still valuable, but for music, Replay A/V can't be beat.
Update: Replay A/V 7.10 is available now!

Audio Broadcast Flag
Apparently, the "Broadcast Flag" just won't die. One congressman is working on cahoots with the RIAA to deny your right to make recordings of ANY digital radio content without the permission of the broadcaster.
See this article from Ars Technica.
What's next - outlawing CD Ripping? Outlawing TiVo?
Please call or write your congress-person today and let them know what a hugely BAD IDEA this bill is.
