Technology enthusiasts are always scrambling for the latest new gadgets, unique mobile apps, and ground-breaking software and hardware that can change the way we live — they’ll always be a few steps ahead of the general public when it comes to anything new and cool in the tech world. We exist in a technology-focused society, and technophiles are some of the most advanced leaders when it comes to the evolution of that digital world.
For those with the insatiable desire to grow, adapt and become more powerful and productive through the use of technology, communities of tech podcasts have sprouted up all over the internet. If you’re like us and can’t get enough of the beautiful tech of today, there are plenty of amazing podcasts and series to keep you in-the-know — you can record and archive them all with Replay Radio:
1. Future Thinkers Podcast
For those far-out technology nerds out there, Future Thinkers Podcast is recorded just for you. Based almost exclusively on discussions around philosophy and technology, and how they inevitably intersect, hosts Mike Gilliland and Euvie Ivanova explore ideas from artificial intelligence to the potential of future societies.
2. Recode Decode
Recode launched its podcast shortly after the start of 2014. Hosted by executive editor and all-around tech news genius/journalist, Kara Swisher, the podcast has featured interviews with well-known CEOs and influential tech figures discussing what’s up-and-coming in the tech world — particularly Silicon Valley.
3. This WEEK in TECH (TWiT)
If you search for the best technology podcasts out there, TWiT is bound to be near the top of the results list. Expert Leo Laporte launched the network more than 10 years ago, making it one of the longest running, most informative weekly roundups ever. If you’re selective like us, make this your one-stop for all things tech.
4. Note to Self
Technology can affect our lives, and humanity, at just about every level. Note to Self is a weekly show that examines just how far technology could go, and serves as a reminder for everyday people to “question everything.” Host Manoush Zomorodi explores questions like “what if everything you said was recorded?”
5. 99% Invisible
“Ninety-nine percent of who you are is invisible and untouchable.” – Buckminster Fuller. The 99% Invisible podcast aims to explore (and expose) many of the often-overlooked features of technology, design and architecture. With a larger focus on design itself, it’s the perfect tech-influenced podcast for the creative at heart.

How to Make a Mashup Video
Here’s a simple, step-by-step guide for creating your very own mashup video:
1. Find Your Content
What kind of mashup do you want to create? Once you have your idea in mind, it’s time to do some searches on YouTube for the perfect set of pre-existing video clips.
2. Download From YouTube
Online video sites are chock full of content, so you can download the videos you need to create your mashup directly from YouTube. You can use Replay Media Catcher to download from Youtube and mix ‘n match all of the best video clips to create your own.
Just play your video along with the software, and it will be downloaded back to your computer even faster than real-time – 10 times quicker than your average playback speed. Plus, with the integrated file converter, you can easily convert your newly-downloaded files to over a hundred different formats.
3. Edit & Join Video Files
Once you have your video clips downloaded back to your computer, it’s time to edit and split the files to segment out the exact pieces you want.
You can use Replay Media Splitter to extract or remove pieces of video files. With an easy-to-follow, visual display and a simple way to include and exclude specific parts of media, you’ll be able to join the pieces to create awesome video mashups in just about any file format!
Recording Software for Educators
Education professionals can benefit greatly from incorporating simple, yet powerful, technological solutions into everyday use. Whether you are an educator for primary school, high school, or a higher education institution, you can use recording software solutions to communicate topics with more clarity, and even provide a greater impact on learning for overall retention.
Previously, if educators wanted to share something from the computer screen, a few quick screenshots would have to suffice. Now with advanced screen capture for educators, as well as video and audio recording technology readily available, it’s much easier to go above and beyond to make learning more efficient and effective.
Help Students at Home
Record lessons that students can access anytime, anywhere. You can offer your students a taste of the same dedicated help you give them one-on-one when they are in the comfort of their own homes.
Not every student has access to the internet outside of being at school, and this can often be a struggle. In fact, this concern increases the farther modern education steps into the digital realm. While difficult, however, this limited access isn’t a complete wall in front of greater education. If even just one of your students doesn’t have the luxury of internet access, you must provide workarounds for them.
With recording solutions like Replay Video Capture, Replay Media Catcher and Replay Converter, it’s simple to create powerful study aides, tutorial videos, FAQs, and recorded lectures from your computer (and online sources) in the form of DVDs and thumb drives, so every student is on a path toward success.
Aid Substitute Teachers
Substitute teachers might not always have the most fresh, up-to-date information on what should be taught to keep a course on track. In your absence, it’s important to keep students on track, and help substitutes, with previously recorded media and other valuable learning materials.
With Replay Media Catcher and Replay Converter in hand, you can easily capture your pre-recorded lessons from YouTube, Khan Academy, TED Talks and any other learning resource with streaming video, and burn a full DVD or fill a thumb drive complete with bits of information from any source you need. This will allow your students to stay on track better while you’re away, and aid substitutes who may not have all of the answers, so no one gets behind.
Collect Learning Materials
Courses and classes, especially where higher education and high school students are attending, can’t afford to remain in the same stale state. For learning to be effective, the practice must change with the pace of technology.
Continuously collecting learning materials from valuable online resources is a great way for educators to stay in-the-know, share information, and present it to students in an easy-to-digest format. Here are just some of the ways that our powerful recording software can benefit educators:
- Put PowerPoints from students on a DVD, thumb drive or SD card to share with other educators.
- Capture podcasts on items of interest or specific study subject.
- Record documentaries, movies and video clips from online sources.
- Save instructional videos from websites like Khan Academy, YouTube, TeacherTube, Lynda and just about anywhere else online.
Finding the time as a busy educator to allow yourself to grow and develop professionally can often be an incredible challenge. Recording software solutions like Replay Media Catcher give the freedom to easily optimize lessons with video and audio content, gather sources for ongoing professional education, and much more.
By using your newly-collected learning materials, creating fresh new ways to present information to your students, and sharing that wealth of knowledge with others, you’ll likely begin to create a culture of professional development for yourself and any other educator you interact with.

Eighteen years ago, when we started building software to keep the media we watch and listen to online, it was the classic case of developing a solution for a problem we experienced first-hand.
A lot has changed on the web since then – the rise of Flash, HTML, and powerful server technologies, has given us more media, more accessibly than ever. The need for tools to save and access this content on our own terms has grown steadily ever since.
We have a lot of fun with the Replay Capture Suite and other Applian products. As we have grown as a business, though, we’ve found that our need to store platform-specific content has grown as well. The solutions for keeping and organizing that content was found right under our noses, within the very products we’d been developing.
Here are some of the best tips we’ve learned for streamlining your business with the amazing software included in the Replay Capture Suite:
With the rise of telecommuting at companies large and small, the need to document the productivity and remote meetings has, too.
Agendas, meeting minutes, and action items are old tricks – a newer technique is using Replay Video Capture to record the audio and/or video from Skype, or any other VoIP platform your company relies on. Knowing what you’ve done and how you’ve spent your time as a company is critical to making better decisions down the line.
Whether you’re a global company or a startup, training is draining on time and other resources. Face-to-face training will always be a requisite for many tasks and positions, but being smart about what you can record and reuse can lighten the load substantially.
Do you have an employee with solid presentation skills, or who is particularly strong at communicating company values? Use Replay Video Capture to record their entire spiel and send it over to new hires to study up on, along with other on-boarding materials to make the transition run smoothly.
No matter your industry, there’s a slew of online educators, thought leaders and visionaries building their own personal brands around industry-specific content; some of these figures are for real, others are pretenders.
Luckily, Replay Media Catcher’s embedded media guides make finding the best industry and educational content specifically for your business easier than ever, and our recording scheduler helps make sure you don’t miss any of the good stuff once you find it. Sharing is caring. Knowledge is power.
Building Company Culture
Cultures are made when people’s interests intersect, and there’s a large body of evidence to suggest that companies need culture as much as individuals and societies do. But, the divergence of interest topics in the web-connected world can make it tricky to find those water cooler chat items.
Using Replay Media Catcher to record enjoyment media (as opposed to professional), and using shared company storage to disseminate that content, is a great way to start non-work related dialogue.
Much has been said of the Golden Age of television today, and now, more than ever, more is being done to take the TV out of the box and onto your more savvy technological devices. We’ve been in this industry for a long time and there has never been a better time to unplug from TV subscriptions and go in for online media subscriptions and computer software (like us!). Here’s why:
THE CABLE COMPANY IS NOT YOUR FRIEND
It’s not difficult to notice your cable package getting more and more expensive every year. Analysts have discovered that the price of TV subscriptions have increased 32% over the last five years. At this rate, it’s already increasing faster than inflation. So, even if you’re in that steady job, you’ll need a raise every time you renew your platform to watch Judge Judy. Not to mention the Net Neutrality debacle to strangle the open playing field for Internet speed (we recommend watching this funny and honest segment by John Oliver for context) Basically, media companies are realizing that the new age of online content is happening like a tsunami and they want to tie you to the weight that is a cable package.
MORE CONTENT FOR LESS EFFORT (AND MONEY)
There are so many great services online to find original content, television shows, and full-length movies. And, much of it involves very little heavy lifting on your end. Not only do you get to create your own “playlists” or queues of content to watch, but also you no longer get the incessant noise of near constant commercials. Here are some of our quick tips on the different sources for your “new cable”:
- HBOGo: It’s not TV, indeed. HBO announced they are working on a subscription-only plan that doesn’t even need a cable provider, but for now, you can still access archives of award-winning television and monthly new episodes and movies online.
- Netflix: Everyone’s favorite new media platform, Netflix has been breaking the mold with their original content and providing endless hours of syndicated TV and hundreds of great movies streaming. Additionally, they refresh their stock monthly.
- Amazon Prime: Making news with their Golden Globe-winning “Transparent”, Amazon has been making waves in original content as well with their Instant Video subscription. Not to mention, they have a different hold on networks and studios, so they offer different options than Netflix has, and can’t get.
- Google Chromecast: This is a pay-as-you-go service and TV plug-in device, similar to On Demand Movies (or Xbox, Apple TV, etc), wherein you pay for films you’d like to see. Many of them are recently released to theaters or just out to the public. There is also a ton of content if you synch your HULU Plus account and “cast” from there. Pretty much any computer screen can be “casted” to your television, so it makes YouTube a whole new world of entertainment.
This is just a sampling and a generalized description of the options that are open to the cord-cutters out there. Sure, some research is involved, but getting an extra $50 to $150 back in your wallet every month is definitely worth it.
GET EVERYTHING YOU NEED
But what about live TV? With services like Pluto TV providing options for news and music channels, and more and more major networks making their primetime events streaming, for example the Super Bowl will be online for free for eleven hours (including pre and post-game coverage); it’s only fitting that the future is adapting to a whole audience of chord-cutters. In fact, geography doesn’t even matter if you integrate a VPN service to allow you to tiptoe over international restrictions to access sites like BBC.
Sure, there are now more places to find great content, but what’s the next step in storing and re-watching the media you love? Thankfully products like Replay Video Capture and our Replay Capture Suite can take all of the shows and movies you love, and keep them for “re-runs” whenever you’d like. You can also record and capture one-time streaming events or programs while you’re not around or at your computer.
With all of these options out there, it only makes sense to make the leap into this brave new cordless world. And, we’ll be here to guide you confidently through it!
