Using Replay Capture Suite Software to Streamline Your Business

RMC_for_biz-BLOG

Eighteen years ago, when we started building software to keep the media we watch and listen to online, it was the classic case of developing a solution for a problem we experienced first-hand.

A lot has changed on the web since then – the rise of Flash, HTML, and powerful server technologies, has given us more media, more accessibly than ever. The need for tools to save and access this content on our own terms has grown steadily ever since.

We have a lot of fun with the Replay Capture Suite and other Applian products. As we have grown as a business, though, we’ve found that our need to store platform-specific content has grown as well. The solutions for keeping and organizing that content was found right under our noses, within the very products we’d been developing.

Here are some of the best tips we’ve learned for streamlining your business with the amazing software included in the Replay Capture Suite:

Indexing Meetings
With the rise of telecommuting at companies large and small, the need to document the productivity and remote meetings has, too.

Agendas, meeting minutes, and action items are old tricks – a newer technique is using Replay Video Capture to record the audio and/or video from Skype, or any other VoIP platform your company relies on. Knowing what you’ve done and how you’ve spent your time as a company is critical to making better decisions down the line.

Streamlining Training
Whether you’re a global company or a startup, training is draining on time and other resources. Face-to-face training will always be a requisite for many tasks and positions, but being smart about what you can record and reuse can lighten the load substantially.

Do you have an employee with solid presentation skills, or who is particularly strong at communicating company values? Use Replay Video Capture to record their entire spiel and send it over to new hires to study up on, along with other on-boarding materials to make the transition run smoothly.

Staying Sharp
No matter your industry, there’s a slew of online educators, thought leaders and visionaries building their own personal brands around industry-specific content; some of these figures are for real, others are pretenders.

Luckily, Replay Media Catcher’s embedded media guides make finding the best industry and educational content specifically for your business easier than ever, and our recording scheduler helps make sure you don’t miss any of the good stuff once you find it. Sharing is caring. Knowledge is power.

Building Company Culture
Cultures are made when people’s interests intersect, and there’s a large body of evidence to suggest that companies need culture as much as individuals and societies do. But, the divergence of interest topics in the web-connected world can make it tricky to find those water cooler chat items.

Using Replay Media Catcher to record enjoyment media (as opposed to professional), and using shared company storage to disseminate that content, is a great way to start non-work related dialogue.

Dr. Wilson’s Possibly humorous Distraction – Vol 14

1415219903_full

As you know if you’ve popped in to Dr. Wilson’s Possibly humorous Distractions before, Dr Jeff Wilson, PhD, was our in-house UX ninja who went through thousands of monthly videos and other web content to bring you some of the best (or at least, some of the most distracting).

But sometimes the best of the best isn’t best enough. Put another way, sometimes the best of the best need a best themselves. Dang, I’m confused. Maybe we’ll just get on with showing you this clip Dr. Wilson selected with all the elements of a perfect distraction: (kids + kittens + pranks = #winning web content)

Where to watch the NFL & College Football online

NFL-BLOG

Football is back. We know you know, but with more people cutting cable, and more ways to watch NCAA D1 football and the NFL than ever before, it can be a chore figuring out just how you’ll get your gridiron fix.

Fear not! We’ve collected the main sources for watching professional and college football online. You can record each and every snap, sack and tackle with Applian recording products from these streaming services, and store them in whatever format suits your needs.

NFL GamePass

The NFL is in some ways the most liberal of all pro sports – constantly adopting new rules, technologies and ideas. So it’s no surprise the NFL has started offering replays of each and every regular season game via its GamePass subscription service.

While you can’t get live games via GamePass, you can get on-demand HD replays of all 256 regular season games which you can record with Replay Video Capture. If you’re less visual and need your live fix, GamePass offers every NFL game live via audio stream, which you can easily capture and keep with Replay Radio. All you have to do is hit the “Quick Record” button at the bottom of the screen to start capturing the audio you’re playing – when finished, just tap the button again to stop recording.

WatchESPN

ESPN covers Football, both college and pro, as vigorously as anyone. They offer football live streaming online. Check out ESPN’s filterable pro and college broadcast schedule here and use Replay Video Capture to keep the games for your own personal viewing pleasure.

To learn how to use Replay Video Capture to record and store all of your most important games this season, check out this handy video to walk you through, step-by-step:

YouTube

Complete, non-live college football games are available on YouTube on the Watch College Football channel. The selection is spotty, but boy are there some gems. Use Replay Media Catcher to download classic college football from YouTube to up your fansmanship!

With a simple copy/paste action of the YouTube video’s URL into Replay Media Catcher, you can quickly and easily download the action, or turn on Auto-Mode to instantly record what’s streaming on your screen.

Have a great football season, and happy capturing!

House of Cards

Nominated for best drama, lead actor and actress, this gripping political contender is worth diving into. Overlooked last year by the final season of Breaking Bad, it’s got a pretty good chance at the win. Nonetheless, Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright are deserving in their own right.

unbreakable-kimmy-schmidt-netflix-gallery-650-80

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

The hilarious first season of the Tina Fey-helmed comedy is up for an Emmy this year. It’s worth watching for the feel-good laugh-out-louds. Be ready to quote and GIF the series for weeks to come.

orange-new-black-gallery-650-80

Orange Is The New Black

After last years’ change up of taking the series off the comedy category and into the drama contenders, Orange is the New Black isn’t likely to take home an award for Best Drama. However, it has a powerhouse cast with exceptional guest characters worth the nods.

Grace and Frankie-650-80

Grace And Frankie

Refreshing to see two amazingly talented older women take the reins as leads in this heart-warming comedy. Nominated for an Emmy, Lily Tomlin is brightly perfect against the polished straight-man of Jane Fonda. Up against some stiff competition, so the likelihood of winning is unknown, the show itself is great.

Daredevil-650-80

Daredevil

Who would have known the Marvel Universe and superhero barrage would produce a great series?! The nuanced action-heavy show is up for noms in special effects and sound design. Super (no pun intended) entertaining television, it will keep you coming back for more.

Enjoy your weekend capturing all of the Netflix noms, and beyond. We will keep you posted as to where, when and how you can record the live-streaming Emmy Awards next weekend.

America’s Test Kitchen

Food is popular. Data is popular. America’s Test Kitchen doesn’t quite carry the torch for the overlap of these, but it’s close. From its kitchen/lab near Boston, America’s Test Kitchen will test each considered recipe up to 70 times, “until we arrive at the combination of ingredients, technique, temperature, cooking time, and equipment that yields the best, most-foolproof recipe.”

The Best Humor(ous) Podcasts to Record Today

1416007138_thumb.png

One of the youngest members of the Applian family is Replay Radio: a tool that lets you record and keep audio content from just about anywhere. But this is the internet we’re talking about, and with Applian, the problem is never ‘how can I record this media?’ it’s ‘how do I choose what media to record?’

Here’s a selection of our favorite, funny podcasts. Capture them all with Replay Radio and finish this summer with a laugh. Listen on!

app-podcast6

WTF with Marc Maron

“To me being a comic meant to be autonomous, angry, truthful, and funny,” says Mark Maron, whose WTF podcast isn’t always as laugh out loud funny as it is self-reflective, truthful and angry. Last month, President Obama joined the podcast but Maron’s usual guests are comics. Funniness, a healthy dose of coming of age tales and inside comedy showbiz stories ensue.
Use Replay Radio to capture WTF from its website or iTunes.

How Did This Get Made?

Have you ever seen a movie so bad that it’s amazing? So begins the official show description and premise of the wonderful How Did This Get Made? podcast, which features funny people, making fun of terrible movies. Hosts Paul Scheer, Jason Mantzoukas and June Diane Raphael dive deep on the movies and TV shows we all love to hate.

Use Replay Radio to capture How Did This Get Made from its website, iTunes, Stitcher or Soundcloud.

Judge John Hodgman

Self-declared “famous minor television personality” John Hodgman has been a master of wry, sarcastic criticism for some time. You might remember him from the I’m a Mac ads with Justin Long, or from his contributing role on Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show as Resident Deranged Millionaire. In his podcast, Hodgeman asks his audience (or anyone else) to bring him issues that need resolving and then brings his bludgeoning, literalist wit to bear on debates and, ultimately, rulings.  You won’t find a more fiercely comedic judge, more tyrannical jury or more hilarious executioner anywhere.
Use Replay Radio to capture Judge John Hodgman from its website or iTunes.

The Bugle

Perhaps America’s favorite contemporary British comic, John Oliver’s bread and butter are pointing out the absurdities of modern American (and other) politics and animal puns. So it’s no surprise his podcast The Bugle with Andy Zaltman calls itself an ‘audio newspaper for a visual world’ and leaves ‘no political hot potato unbuttered.’

If you enjoyed John Oliver’s contributing or hosting work on The Daily Show, or if you’re a fan of his new, more provocative show on HBO, check out The Bugle and make reading tomorrow’s paper just a little less painful.
Use Replay Radio to capture The Bugle from its website or iTunes.

Star Talk Radio

And now for show that’s not so much a humor podcast as a humorous podcast, starring perhaps America’s most unlikely folk comedic celebrity, the oft-cited and well-known Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Tyson is an expert at making big, scientific notions and questions accessible, with smart, healthy doses of pop culture references and humor.
Use Replay Radio to capture Star Talk Radio from SoundCloud.

Dr. Wilson’s Possibly humorous Distraction – Vol 13

humorous disctractions

It’s been a trying year so far for our favorite in-house doctor – Dr. Jeff Wilson, PhD, of course. Besides his UX work for the team here at Applian, and the thousands upon thousands of videos and web clips he’s been through, Dr. Jeff has also been spending more time at home with his parents. Not really, but here, in preparation for some 4th of July family time, are a few things he’s learned about surviving a move back in with the parental units. Have some more salad.
