For every traveling fiend out there, there exist apps and software to help make travels smoother, steps and connections less complicated, and enjoying downtime easier. From the time you start thinking about your next travel details to the very moment that your feet hit the front steps when you get back home, having the right travel apps on-hand during every phase of a summer trip makes the whole experience better.

In our curated list of travel apps and software that we can’t take a trip without, we’re focusing on some of the lesser-known and under-appreciated travel tools we love.

1. Google Earth (for Desktop)

During the planning phase of your trip, it’s a great benefit to be able to do a little recon of where you’re going to be. For traveling by plane across the country or abroad, you can use the Google Earth app online to look at some of the major landmarks in certain areas and get your itinerary set early. For fans of road trips, it’s an awesome way to see both birds eye and close-up views of your route, its pit stops, and all the little details along the way you may need to know.

Check out Google Earth online here.

2. Roadtrippers (for Mobile)

Speaking of road trips, arguably the most useful app for on-the-go experiences is Roadtrippers. Free for iOS and Android users, the app shows you cool and interesting places, restaurants, accommodations, attractions, and more along your planned driving route. You can filter the real-time list and map by activity or distance to make finding the perfect stops as easy and painless as possible. Just remember to have your passenger do the navigating!

3. Replay Capture Suite (for Desktop)

The Replay Capture Suite is the only suite of software out there that can download just about any type of media online, including movies, TV shows, radio shows, podcasts, audiobooks, full albums, playlists, and more. For its most loyal users, software in the Replay Capture Suite is the best complement to going on a long road trip or flight with unpredictable WiFi, or for stock-piling entertainment before any trip that’s a little more off-grid.

4. Hopper (for Mobile)

With the Hopper app for iOS and Android, you can easily keep an eye on the cheapest dates to fly, via custom notifications and a handy month-view calendar, so you can always get the best deal and save your cash for more awesome travel experiences. The company claims it can save you up to 40% on a flight using its complex and powerful system, it’s easy to use, and you can book a flight in a minute flat.

Applian User Experience: Going Off-Grid with Your Favorite Movies

When you’re out in the middle of nowhere for an extended period of time, chances are you’ll want access to your favorite movies, music, and more in order to help pass the time every once in a while. Going off-grid entirely runs the risk of no Internet, and in many cases, no wireless service, either. For one of our own customers who frequently enjoys running off into the woods, being able to stockpile and save all the media he wants before leaving the city is a lifesaver.

Matthew spends his summers enjoying an almost completely off-grid cabin in order to get away from it all and soak in nature. While this is an incredible annual experience, there are always some times where having a great movie or album to listen to can help entertain for an evening.

“Spending my summer in an off-grid cabin with metered wireless internet, I cannot be a regular consumer of streaming media; instead, I “stock up” when I go into town and have accessed to “unlimited”/unmetered internet.

Far too many information providers provide streaming-only content (be it audio or video), which would otherwise preclude me from effectively utilizing (especially at times more convenient to me), despite even being a paid subscriber to said content. Reply Media Catcher solves this problem most effectively for me, enabling an off-line storage of important media so I can consume at my leisure, instead of having less constructive “binge-fests” when around capable internet connections.”

Using our powerful Replay Media Catcher software, Matthew has been effectively able to save all of the media he could possibly want, enabling himself to have full access to his favorites without the use of any wireless internet or data plan. For media-consumers like Matthew, our program for downloading media offline is the perfect way to save show episodes, feature films, podcasts, videos, and even music from popular sites and services, so they can enjoy anytime. As Matthew puts it:

“It has really made a huge difference in facilitating my disconnected lifestyle this summer!”

How Does Replay Media Catcher Work?

Replay Media Catcher can expertly record streaming online video and audio with perfect quality. It’s an easy, yet powerful way to capture video and audio files from thousands of websites as they play in any web browser.

  • Records audio from ANY source as it plays.
  • Automatically converts recorded files to a format of your choice.
  • Lets you schedule recordings from any playable URL at a time you choose.

NBA Playoffs 2018: Where to Live Stream & How to Record

At almost this time last year, we were watching the Warriors crush the Cavs in an epic 2017 NBA Finals. With the regular season wrapping up this year already, we’re looking forward to another action-packed postseason basketball. The final rosters are set for April 13, with the 2018 NBA Playoffs officially starting on April 14. • Conference Finals on May 15 or 16 (but could be moved up to May 13 or 14)
  • The Finals on May 31, running as late as June 17

Figuring out who will be going head to head is driving some folks crazy; there are so many different scenarios that could play out, it’s no wonder that NBA fans are trying to understand from every angle. Bleacher Report put it best in their recent Playoff Picture when they said:

Things are starting to become more clear, though. As it stands today, these are our highlighted brackets…

Eastern Bracket:

Raptors (1) vs. Wizards (8)
Cavaliers (4) vs. Pacers (5)
Sixers (3) vs. Heat (6)
Celtics (2) vs. Bucks (7)

Western Bracket:

Rockets (1) vs. Timberwolves (8)
Jazz (4) vs. Pelicans (5)

March Madness 2018: Where to Watch & Record Online

If March Madness 2018 is anything like the regular season, we’re in for an intense and totally unpredictable postseason tournament. Trust us, you’re not going to want to miss a minute. While nothing’s ever set-in-stone, FiveThirtyEight statistics are pointing to a few clear regional leads who may continue to advance:

Men’s Teams

According to Forbes:

“Only half of the schools that reached their respective regionals are ones a majority thought would reach this point. This group includes No. 1 Villanova, No. 1 Kansas, No. 2 Purdue, No. 2 Duke, No. 3 Michigan, No. 4 Gonzaga and No. 5 Kentucky…

The remainder of the Sweet 16 field is compromised of a rag-tag collection of double-digit seeds—No. 11 Loyola-Chicago and No. 11 Syracuse pulled off back-to-back upsets to shock the world—and middle-seeded programs that weren’t given much of a chance to get through their pod because a consensus powerhouse was blocking the way through the bracket.”

Additionally, the NCAA March Madness Twitter account just recently tweeted out the most updated brackets:

How to Live Stream & Record March Madness 2018

The 5 Most Popular Series on BBC iPlayer to Download and Save

Among the streaming giants we normally keep up-to-date on, BBC iPlayer is one of the largest abroad. While noticing that services like Netflix and Amazon were taking a big portion of the viewers, the BBC took a digital approach when they made full series of shows available online after being shown on live TV. Now, BBC iPlayer is at its absolute best; viewers are streaming an average of 272 million shows every month.

With BBC being one of the leading providers of amazing content like shows, movies, and documentaries, there’s a comprehensive catalog of media to consume and enjoy on their platform, including many top-rated UK series. We’ve taken a deep dive into the most popular titles on BBC iPlayer – you can record every last one of them using (a DNS service like Getflix. if you’re in the United States and) the power of Replay Media Catcher!

1. The Young Offenders

The Young Offenders, while fairly new, has already rounded up a ton of acclaim from comedy viewers in the UK, USA, and beyond who enjoy a good belly laugh. Starring Alex Murphy, Chris Walley as two teenage friends (Conor and Jock) from Cork, the show follows their follies and journeys in stealing bikes, hatching up crazy plans, and going on impromptu adventures ultimately on the quest to find a missing bale of cocaine worth 7,000,000 euros.

2. EastEnders

EastEnders is a truly classic British drama/soap opera that was created by Julia Smith and Tony Holland in the early 80’s and has been featured regularly on BBC One since 1985. Like many other soap operas, the general storyline sounds simple enough, following a family or working-class folks of Albert Square; however, it manages to discuss many social, societal, and even “taboo” issues that made the show way ahead of its time.

3. MasterChef

MasterChef is one of those cooking shows that you can kick but can never keep down. There’s nothing people love more than watching competitive cooking, baking, and perfecting of food that you can practically smell it looks so good. After a brief hiatus of the program in the early 2000’s, MasterChef has been better than ever (and making our mouths water!). Pro tip: check out all of the spin-off programs to get all of the cooking competition you can handle.

4. Shetland

If you love Scottish accents, beautiful scenery, and a whole bunch of true crime, Shetland is the perfect show for you. This crime drama series stars Douglas Henshall as Detective Inspector Jimmy Perez, a Detective Inspector on the Scottish archipelago of Shetland who has a no-B.S. attitude when it comes to cracking cases. For fans of the recent true crime drama movement, this is one show you won’t want to keep off your list.

5. Call the Midwife

Call the Midwife is a period piece that some might describe as “perfect.” Adapted by Heidi Thomas from the best-selling memoirs of Jennifer Worth, this dramatic show provides a new perspective on the lives and women behind midwifery in 1950s East End London. Chiefly following a midwife named Jenny and a crew of lovable nuns, Call the Midwife is a refreshing series full of amazing women who care for people.

Important Note: BBC iPlayer lets you stream shows and movies, but only if you’re watching in the UK. The easiest way to watch BBC iPlayer in the United States and other areas abroad is to use a DNS service like Getflix.

Replay Media Catcher is the only software out there that can record high-quality video of streaming movies and other media online. BONUS TIP! Use the live stream monitor feature to easily keep track of your favorite streaming shows and entertainment on BBC iPlayer, and automatically download. Don’t miss these exclusive series and shows before they’re gone – use Replay Media Catcher to save them all.
