Our April Picks on Netflix Streaming

Our April Netflix Streaming Picks

Spring is here! The months are flying by and so are on-demand streaming options on the Netflix. Never feel conflicted again about what to watch. Available already (or before April ends) are a few of the movie and TV titles we’re firing up Replay Video Capture for… before they’re gone again.

Nicholas Cage in National Treasure Streaming on Netflix April 2015

National Treasure (2004)

This Nicolas Cage-led US history thriller stands alone. The perfect mix of unbelievable action and entertaining mystery, this family-friendly PG romp somehow makes the Founding Fathers seem undeniably interesting.

Record Simon Pegg's Hot Fuzz Streaming On Netflix This April

Hot Fuzz (2007)

If you’re looking to chuckle, than add this British hit to the Queue. Police officer slapstick and diamond-sharp wit collide in Simon Pegg’s cult comedy tour de force.

Capture Russel Crowe in Noah Streaming on Netflix April 2015

Noah (2014)

Director Darren Aaronofsky’s latest project – a Bible Epic starring Russel Crowe, Emma Watson and Jennifer Connelly. Fun fact: The scenes on the Arc are shot on a real Arc, which they built for the film and which survived Hurricane Sandy.

Stream The Babadook on Netflix

The Babadook (2014)

Feeling like getting scared? This new school horror film doesn’t rely on gimmicks, handheld camera work or possession themes for a change. With a genuine plot surrounding a single mother and her son, this is a chilling movie… perfect before bed (not really).

Marvel's Daredevil now streaming on Netflix

Marvel’s Daredevil (season 1)

Another huge TV project from Marvel. Another Netflix original show. Don’t miss it. From the comic book pages to streaming on-demand, the story of a blind lawyer turned crime-fighter is much grittier than expected, which we love!

Capture Streaming Sons of Anarchy on Netflix April 2015

Sons Of Anarchy (season 7)

Motorcycles, Johnny Law, and typical gang mayhem awaits. The divisive biker sudo-period-drama’s last chapter is now streaming. Join the Sons as they ride off into the sunset of their final season.

Record the 2015 Masters Tournament with Replay Media Catcher

Today the 79th Masters Tournament tees off in Augusta, Georgia and we’ve got just the thing to help you capture all the action. Get your version of Replay Media Catcher ready and head on over to the Tournament’s live stream at CBS Sports online. You can use the DVR Browser in Replay Media Catcher or use the Stream Downloader to record each dramatic  hook, slice and birdie from the storied home of Championship golf.

The full list of tee times can be found here, and the competition will be fierce. Will Tiger Woods finally find his return to form? Can Bubba Watson keep the green jacket he won last year? Will world number one Rory McIlroy finally swing his way into history, joining Tiger on the short list of golfers to complete a career Grand Slam – winning The Masters, The US Open, The Open Championship and the PGA Championship? All this and more will be decided this weekend atop Augusta’s speedy bent grass, between treacherous quartz pits and, especially, around Amen Corner.

Luckily, you won’t have to miss work to stay on top of every stroke.

Download Replay Media Catcher today if you haven’t already, or make sure you’re updated to our latest-and-greatest version.

YouTube April 20 Changes

There is a lot of discussion about the changes YouTube is planning on April 20, 2015, and how it may or may not affect various YouTube downloading solutions.  Besides the YouTube engineers, nobody knows for sure what effect this will have. Officially, they will be discontinuing some older APIs, but that’s all we know.

From Applian’s standpoint, we will always be able to download videos from ANY site — no matter what changes come about. There may be a few days where we scramble to come up with a downloader fix to Replay Media Catcher, but programs like Replay Video Capture will always be able to record video – no matter what.

April should be an interesting month!

Netflix Conflix: Goodbye, February

As the seasons change, so do the Netflix streaming options. And like the months before, March is blooming up fast. So dig into that queue and put these soon-to-be-removed movies on the list. Simply set up a time to record with your Replay Video Capture and have all of the streaming control you’d like with these gems well past February. Here are our favorites to say bye-bye from Netflix and hello with Applian recording software:

Brokedown Palace

A harrowing travel story about two young friends who find themselves wrongfully imprisoned in a Thai prison for smuggling drugs into Hong Kong. A very young Kate Beckinsale and Claire Danes play the main characters, with Bill Pullman as their American lawyer to free them from 33 years of imprisonment. An interesting film about justice and the bonds of friendship, it’s definitely worth seeing if you’ve never before.

Lords of Dogtown

Based on the true story of the beginnings of skateboarding in grimy Venice, California circa 1970’s; this fictionalization of the z-boys and the Zephyr skate team is the perfect time-machine to a seedy but exciting place in the sports’ legacy. Supreme acting performances by Heath Ledger and Emile Hirsch, and directed by Catherine Hardwicke, it’s an entertaining ride with an awesome soundtrack.

Swiss Family Robinson

One of the classic Disney family films that ages well. About a family left stranded on a wild island, they fend for themselves. It features imaginative treehouses, frightening pirates, and a parade of exotic animals. The cinematography doesn’t disappoint some fifty years later and the scenic backdrop almost makes you wish you too were stranded there, perfectly nostalgic.

The Graduate

“Mrs. Robinson, you’re trying to seduce me? Aren’t you?” Relive the awkwardness of Dustin Hoffman’s breakout role as Benjamin Braddock, the bewildered college student lured in by his girlfriend’s mother, played by the beautiful Anne Bancroft. It’s worth having in the library as a perfect time capsule.

Legends of the Fall

Okay, so technically this isn’t leaving Netflix until the very end of March, but it’s too good to not want to keep in your archives. Brad Pitt is more than a pretty face as the tough and brooding Tristan Ludow, alongside the brilliant Antony Hopkins as his father, and Aiden Quinn and Henry Thomas as the other Ludow brothers. Set in the rural America of the 1900s, this is a passionate movie about family, loss, war, and ultimately love.

Netflix Conflix: Holiday Edition

Can’t decide what to watch and record? We’re here to the rescue! Since it is the “most wonderful time of the year”, there’s no better time than now to get into the holiday spirit. On this edition of “Netflix Conflix” we’ve rounded up some of the merrier picks that Netflix is currently offering through streaming that you should record with Replay Video Capture before they disappear online – plus, you can keep them in your arsenal for next season! Need help recording from Netflix? Just watch this helpful tutorial:

Scrooged: If you’re like us, then anything with Bill Murray is a winner. This 80s classic is the reinterpretation of “A Christmas Carol”, but with more snark and less Victorian London scenery. Not only is it a touching feel-good holiday film, but it is downright funny, thanks to Mr. Murray and his signature brand of effervescent charm.

White Christmas: Looking for a fluffy holiday musical that even grandma can love (or loves to re-watch)? Search no further. The insanely likable Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye duo give this classic Christmas tale a fun feel. You’ll be singing and dancing all evening, just hoping for more snow.

Nightmare Before Christmas: This Tim Burton family film is gorgeously unique and definitely has it’s place in the Holiday-Film-Hall-of-Fame (if there were one). Additionally filled with catchy tunes about the dreaded Christmas time and the revered Halloween, it’s the perfect transition from the scary to the sweet with emo-perfect execution.

The Fitzgerald Family Christmas: Written and directed by Ed Burns, this is a recent (2012) holiday drama that profiles a broken family trying to find that Christmas spirit. A fantastic ensemble cast and authentic feel make this film about family dynamics and drama one to distract you from your own sibling chaos this year.

A Saturday Night Live Christmas: Okay, so this one is technically not a Netflix streaming option, but thankfully you have Replay Video Catcher and can also get in on all of the Hulu action too! The 40-year-old TV institution compiled it’s best holiday-related sketches into one hilarious giant “show”. Relive all the funny and relish in performances from cast members past.

The End of Grooveshark Recording?

It looks like Grooveshark is in a heap of trouble, according to this article in Ars Technica.

A judge found that Grooveshark employees were encouraged to upload thousands of songs to the service. As far as I understand the legality, if users upload it’s OK for Grooveshark, but it’s pretty obviously a copyright violation if employees of the company are doing it – especially when directed by management. This violates the basic rule of thumb of copyright law: Don’t redistribute other people’s stuff without their permission.

There’s still a lot of great music sites out there (which Replay Media Catcher and Replay Music record from nicely). But Grooveshark is one of my favorites.

Best Media Sites: LOL Edition

So you know about YouTube and Netflix. But what about those undiscovered gems around the Internet just ripe for the downloading? Check out these Replay Media Catcher compatible sites. Note that not all sites are viewable in all countries.

This month, we wanted to feature the sites that tickle our funny bone, make us spit take, and get us smiling from ear to ear. Here are five fantastic sites that you are definitely going to want to download video from, and keep forever… because laughter is contagious and continual.

FUNNY OR DIE:

The celebrity-endorsed platform for hilarious series and one-offs, where you can catch the very watch worthy “Drunk History” and “Between Two Ferns With Zack Galifinakis” along with a ton of other giggle-making sketches.

CRACKED:

More centered on Internet memes and pop culture, Cracked offers some humorous takes on everything from Doctor Who to Kanye West. Also, check out the “Artist In Residency Program” where they feature a filmmaker hand-picked for your viewing pleasure.

CHEEZBURGER:

The OG funny video site still has quite a bit of life – and not as many cat memes. With a new Video section in Beta, they are experimenting with a whole channel devoted to Cheez-approved YouTube content. Don’t worry; there are still cat videos.

THE CHIVE:

This site is full of hilarious distractions. Everything from GIFs, to listicles, to random factoids, you can loose yourself for hours on The Chive. If you’re looking to capture some funny, watch and record their trending videos for a clue as to what will be popping up in your Facebook feed next.

COLLEGE HUMOR:

Another classic funny video site, College Humor has been serving up the chuckles for 15 years, and boasts an impressive collection of original series and sketches. Our personal favorite is “Phantom of the Office” – we’d hire him just to keep us laughing.

As always, be sure to use only the best to download your favorite videos and media using Replay Media Catcher. If you’ve got a favorite video outlet on the web, be sure to give us the low-down in the comments or on our Facebook Page.
