Top 5 Most Amazing Web Series on YouTube Right Now

You’ve seen our roundup lists for our favorite YouTube comedy channels, news channels, and even science and technology channels before; sufficed to say, we’re big YouTube fans in general. While we’re usually busy streaming and downloading from Netflix, HBO and other services with amazing shows, YouTube is one platform that’s been quietly dominating the online streaming scene.

Did you know shows like Broad City, Portlandia, and Billy on the Street started as a web series online? It’s the number one way for video creators, writers, comedians and other media creatives to truly shine, without the need of a contract. While you can subscribe to YouTube Red for unlimited access to all of their new, original content and web series, not everyone wants to pay to play. For everyone else on the standard YouTube site, there are still some super-creative, well-done mini-web series to get caught up on.

The Misadventures of an Awkward Black Girl

Issa Rae is well on her way toward production stardom for her well-crafted video projects. One that we’re particularly in love with is The Misadventures of an Awkward Black Girl, which was released on YouTube in 2011. With a full two seasons and short episodes averaging just a few minutes each, it’s a quick binge session to catch up with (and finish) this brilliant series that was turned into a book. Plus, Issa Rae offers more videos and series on her main channel. Watch and record The Misadventures of an Awkward Black Girl on YouTube using Replay Media Catcher.

Ladies Room

This Mumbai-based lady-duo has been quietly killing it with their hilariously real comedy, Ladies Room. Mainly based in, you guessed it, stalls from various ladies’ bathrooms, the two comediennes rant through things like pregnancy scares, narrowly missed arrests, and accidentally consuming illegal substances. The humor is dangerous, relatable, and laugh-out-loud funny, reminiscent of predecessors like Broad City. Watch and record Ladies Room on YouTube using Replay Media Catcher.

The Actress

Actresses who are looking for new work and glory on the big screen can often have a rough, dramatic life. The Actress chronicles the life of one such struggling star in particular, and delicately balances the hilariousness and despair associated with “becoming a star.” If you love the humor of shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm and Ricky Gervais’ Extras, you’ll love the squirm-inducing, almost painful-to-watch situations in this 3-season mini web series. Watch and record The Actress on YouTube using Replay Media Catcher.

H+

Who says you can’t manage real effects without a full production team? The team behind H+ has mastered the art of creating a gripping, graphics-based series without a large budget. Utterly confusing and yet completely binge-worthy, H+ is a futuristic-style drama that dives into the complexities of technological implants that take things too far. Watch and record H+ on YouTube using Replay Media Catcher.

Video Game High School

Many high school teen’s dream-come-true, Video Game High School (VGHS) is a feature-length YouTube series that follows a gamer named Brian who is recruited to attend a very special school after winning a tournament on live TV. Laden with fun humor and some surreal absurdities, this 3-season mini web series is as charming and goofy as it is creative. Watch and record Video Game High School on YouTube using Replay Media Catcher.

Essential YouTube Hacks for Every Video Watcher

youtube to mp3

If you’re anything like us, you can hardly go a day without opening up YouTube to watch a video online. Plus, with the cold winter season settled in and making us want to stay warm and cozy, it’s inevitable that YouTube is in for a boost in viewership. While the popular video streaming site makes it possible to watch videos on any topic, served up by folks from all walks of life, there are still more cool things to be discovered.

Ready for the most entertaining YouTube experience of your life? Check out our top tips, tricks and hacks to help kick your viewing up a notch.

1. Create an auto-lineup of your favorites

Have a few favorite YouTubers that you binge-watch again and again? You can create a meta playlist that holds ALL of the video uploads from a single uploader (in order of upload date, chronologically). To do this, just add “&list=UL” to any video URL on YouTube.

2. Conquer country-specific videos

Sometimes, YouTube videos can have restrictions based on geographic regions. That’s why you’ll get that “The uploader has not made this video available in your country” pop-up message when you stumble on a cool video from far away. Luckily, this trick lets you watch any video from any country.

Here’s how regular YouTube links appears: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxxx

Copy the string of characters defined by our “xxxx” example above, and paste it so that the URL is: http://www.youtube.com/v/xxxx

3. Watch in HD mode all the time

High definition is ALWAYS better, but sometimes your Internet connection can get in the way. Unlock HD mode by adding a couple of secret codes to the end of your video URL. Get stereo sound and 480×270 resolution with “&fmt=18”, or “&fmt=22” for 1280×720 resolution.

4. Jump through age restrictions

We’re all for keeping PG-13 videos for more mature eyes only, but sometimes the age restrictions on YouTube videos can be bothersome for legal adults. Instead of signing in or clicking through to verify your age, just add “nsfw.” to the beginning of your entire video’s URL, so that it appears like this: nsfw.youtube.com

5. Hunt for all the hidden Easter eggs

Cleverly hidden in YouTube’s source code are secrets just waiting to be discovered and unlocked. Here are some of our favorites:

  • Search “Beam me up Scotty” and your results will show up like they were transported through space.
  • Repeat any video (forever!) by right-clicking on the video and selecting “Loop.”
  • Like old games? Type the numbers “1980” while your video is playing and the Missile Control game will appear.
  • An homage to the Wadsworth Constant, a meme that stated the first 30% of any video isn’t worth your time, you can enter “&wadsworth=1” at the end of a YouTube video URL and it’ll auto-skip the first 30% for you.

6. Access unique 360-degree videos

YouTube launched their support for 360-degree videos earlier in 2016, letting users have a complete view of key videos and live events. With Chrome installed on your computer, you can rotate around and see every angle just by using your mouse. On mobile through the YouTube app, a simple screen swivel can lead you into new 360-degree journeys.

7. Download videos & turn audio files into MP3s

Take your favorite videos with you, in any file type you need! With Replay Media Catcher, you can download YouTube videos with just one quick drag-and-drop movement and automatically convert YouTube to MP3, WMV, AVI and more popular file formats.

The Syndicate Project has reached nearly 10 million subscribers — but it wasn’t always so big. Of all the “popular” gaming channels out there, this one’s our favorite! Watch + record The Syndicate Project on YouTube

2. Game Grumps

Game Grumps is another Let’s Play series on YouTube starring Arin Hanson and Dan Avidan. Created in mid 2012, the channel generally puts out 3 videos a day that consist of hosts playing a game, and highlights their experiences and opinions of that game. It has since expanded to many lengthy videos that incorporate new hosts in spin-offs, including Ross O’Donovan, Barry Kramer, Suzy Berhow and Brian Wecht. Watch + record GameGrumps on YouTube

3. Rev3Games

Remember Adam Sessler? He was made famous by G4TV and its review show X-Play, which ran until 2013. Now he’s putting out awesome, personality-laden videos on his YouTube channel, Rev3Games! Also starring Tara Long, Anthony Carboni and other co-hosts, this channel has a casual, yet super entertaining style of video content that features reviews, Let’s Plays, and live streaming game play. 4. The Gaming Historian

Much like its name implies, the Gaming Historian is documentary-style web series about the history of video games. While it doesn’t have any live game play, unboxing moments or reaction videos, the YouTube show is incredibly well-edited and professional-looking, and the host does an amazing job backing up every fact or piece of trivia with solid research. Watch + record The Gaming Historian on YouTube

5. SeaNanners

SeaNanners is hosted by commentator Adam Montoya, who focuses his YouTube channel primarily on Let’s Play videos of first-person shooter games (Call of Duty), third-person adventure games (Grand Theft Auto), and other strategy-related video games (Minecraft).
