Hocus Pocus
Hocus Pocus is a must-see, Halloween classic, starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy. The Sanderson sisters (Midler, Parker and Najimy) were executed 300 years ago for practicing dark witchcraft, but now, they’ve returned. Thanks to a combination of a spell spoken before their demise and the accidental actions of the new-kid-in-town, Max, the sisters will do whatever it takes to secure their continuing existence. The only trouble is they have just one night to do it…
Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a cult-classic that draws fans to movie theatres every Halloween to relive the time warp, again and again. Sweethearts Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon), end up stuck with a flat tire during a storm, leading them to discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a transvestite scientist. As their innocence is lost, Brad and Janet meet a houseful of peculiar characters, including a rocking biker and a creepy butler. With the help of elaborate dances and rock songs, Frank-N-Furter unveils his latest creation: a muscular man named “Rocky.”
IT
The IT movie is based on Stephen King’s 1986 novel of the same name. Both the original and 2017 remake follow seven young outcasts in Derry, Maine, who are about to face their worst nightmare — an ancient, haunting evil that emerges from the sewer every 27 years to prey on the town’s children. Pledging to band together over the course of one horrifying summer, the friends must overcome their own personal fears to defeat the murderous, bloodthirsty clown, otherwise known as Pennywise.
The Exorcism of Emily Rose
The Exorcism of Emily Rose is loosely based on the true story of Anneliese Michel, who, it is believed was possessed by demons, and underwent Catholic exorcism rites during the year leading up to her death. In the movie, Rev. Moore is prosecuted for the wrongful death of a girl believed to be demonically possessed, because he administered the church-sanctioned exorcism that ultimately killed her. Watch as prosecuting attorney Ethan Thomas fights to prove that Emily actually suffered from schizophrenia and should have been medically diagnosed, while the defense maintains Emily’s condition cannot be explained by science alone.
Beetlejuice
After their fatal car accident, the spirits of Barbara and Adam are stuck haunting their country residence, unable to leave the house. When the unbearable Deetzes (Catherine O’Hara and Jeffrey Jones), and their teen daughter (Winona Ryder) buy the home, the Maitlands unsuccessfully attempt to scare them away. Instead, their efforts attract Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), a rowdy spirit whose “help” quickly spells trouble for the Maitlands and Lydia.
The Nightmare Before Christmas
If you’re looking for a family-friendly Halloween movie, look no further than this Tim Burton animated classic. The Nightmare Before Christmas follows the adventures of Jack Skellington, Halloweentown’s beloved pumpkin king. Bored with the same annual routine of frightening people in the “real world,” Jack accidentally stumbles on Christmastown — a stark contrast to Halloweentown. Bright colors and warm spirits, Jack gets a new lease on life, and plots to bring Christmas under his control by kidnapping Santa Claus and taking over the job. Jack soon discovers though, that even the best-laid plans don’t always turn out…
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
This 2003 remake of the horror classic follows a group of young travelers who come across an isolated rural home while driving through Texas on their way back from Mexico. Unfortunately for them, the dilapidated house is actually the residence of a family of twisted backwoods killers, most notably a merciless, masked man known as Leatherface, who begins to hunt the stranded youths down.
