How to Record Every Virtual Business Meeting

record virtual meetings

How many virtual meetings are held in your office in a given month? How about during a regular week? For many professionals working in remote and in-office jobs alike, the number may be growing. In a recent Successful Meetings survey, 33% of respondents said that they plan to hold more virtual meetings in the coming year (compared to just 2% who plan on fewer) — an increase that’s larger than any other type of work meeting in use today.

With popular services offering somewhat-reliable connections, Skype, Google Hangouts, Join.me, and many other video conferencing platforms are in high demand.

Why Hold Virtual Meetings?

With the rise of telecommuting, remote offices (like our own), and completely virtual teams, the need for reliable, online-only meetings has become hugely important. Virtual meetings are hugely popular for a number of reasons:

  • They can aid in the streamlining and efficiency of meetings (up to a certain amount of time, at least).
  • They help small businesses, remote teams and startups to save money on costs related to chat and calls.
  • You can share your screen with coworkers, run a presentation, or discuss with live visuals.
  • They allow international, or cross-country teams to see, hear and work together — much like how we get things done in our business.
  • They actually reduce travel time and help improve productivity in many cases, since they don’t have to leave their environment to dial in.

With every virtual meeting held through video conferencing comes a need for a thorough agenda, accurate meeting minutes, and follow-up items. While the average employee can type at a decent speed, having a single person responsible for capturing a record of each meeting can be an impossible task.

How to Record Video Calls

A newer technique being adopted by remote-operating businesses (and those using video conferencing) is to use a video recording solution in tandem with notes and minutes. Replay Telecorder is the most powerful, easy-to-use video conference recorder out there — you can record virtual meetings held on Skype, Google Hangouts, Join.me, GoToMeeting, and every other application you can think of with perfect accuracy.

With simple, one-click recording to start right away and a fast background mode to capture and multi-task, it’s a super-efficient solution to recording and saving every virtual business meeting, brainstorm, and more. Here’s how to record every virtual business meeting using Replay Telecorder:

  1. First, open up Skype, Google Hangouts, or whichever conferencing app you use for business. Then, launch Replay Telecorder on your computer.
  2. If you’re using Skype for your virtual meetings, Replay Telecorder will automatically detect the window for you. If you’re using a different video conferencing application, just click Mark to manually select the area of the screen that you want to record.
  3. Click Record to start recording.
  4. Click Stop to stop recording.
  5. Click Play to playback the last recording.

Please Note: For best results, when recording on High Definition displays (1920×1080) or higher, keep the size of the video window to a minimum. Do not use full screen or larger size windows. Skype™ consumes a lot of CPU on HD displays when large windows are utilized.

New on Netflix: What’s Coming This May

Another new month, another chance to enjoy some great new titles on Netflix! Arguably their best and worst quality is the constantly rotating collection of TV shows, movies, and documentaries available; while there’s always something new to watch, you just have to make sure to download from Netflix before your favorites go away.

Get ready for a heap of awesome content coming soon — from Netflix original movies to series specials to mainstream films, there’s a little bit of everything for online streamers. Here’s our pick of some titles coming to Netflix starting May 1st.

Happy Feet (2006)

An animated musical with some of Hollywood’s top stars voicing adorable penguins sounds like just about the most wonderful family movie ever. Happy Feet follows the story of Mumble (Elijah Wood), a young emperor penguin who has a terrible voice but can’t keep from tap-dancing around Antarctica and making a ton of friends along the way. You can watch and download Happy Feet on Netflix, available 5/1.

Forrest Gump (1994)

A forever kind of classic, Forrest Gump is one film you won’t want to miss capturing for your collection. With Tom Hanks in one of his most infamous roles and a young Robin Wright as his illusive co-star, you’ll find yourself within one man’s journey from disadvantaged and disabled to inspirational and completely unrestricted. You can watch and download Forrest Gump on Netflix, available 5/1.

Sense8: Season 2

What would happen if you woke up one day and were suddenly linked, intuitively, to other people around the world? What if you could travel to them in the blink of an eye? Sense8 is an action-packed Netflix original series from The Wachowski sisters (of the Matrix franchise fame) that follows 8 strangers as they navigate the confusing, complicated and often dangerous world they now live in. You can watch and download Sense8: Season 2 on Netflix, available 5/5.

Chelsea: Season 2

America’s snarky sweetheart is back for another season of her talk-meets-adventure show, Chelsea. The hour-long series will feature some amazing in-depth interviews and, of course, her signature envy-inducing dinner parties, airing once weekly, along with a lot of travel and self-exploration. You can watch and download Chelsea: Season 2 on Netflix, available starting 5/5.

Master of None: Season 2

Aziz Ansari drew inspiration from his own personal life experiences to create the characters and situations in Master of None, a wonderfully enjoyable Netflix original comedy. Playing Dev, a struggling actor living in New York, Ansari explores life in the modern era with all of its twists, turns, and weird expectations. You can watch and download Master of None: Season 2 on Netflix, available 5/12.

Inglourious Basterds (2009)

Inglorious Basterds tells the fictional alternate tale of a secret assembly of soldiers on a mission to eliminate the Nazi Germans in WWII. Starring Brad Bitt, Christoph Waltz, Melanie Laurent, and others, it’s a brutal, yet hilarious, account of a plot to assassinate Nazi leaders and navigate the tense era. You can watch and download Inglorious Basterds on Netflix, available 5/22.

House of Cards: Season 5

Conquering Washington, D.C. with skill and ruthlessness is more complicated than the President and First Lady anticipated. Season 5 of our favorite political drama, House of Cards, is set to begin soon, offering with it all of the cold-blooded and calculated political moves we’ve now come to expect. You can watch and download House of Cards: Season 5 on Netflix, available 5/30.

Marvel’s Doctor Strange (2016)

One of Marvel’s more recent blockbuster hits is coming to Netflix earlier than we’d expect. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the doctor himself, Doctor Strange follows a neurosurgeon as he attempts to recover from an accident of his own. When traditional medicine fails him, he makes science work for him; but of course, it’s not all good news. You can watch and download Doctor Strange on Netflix, available 5/30.

Music Streaming: Which Service is On Top in 2017?

Music is always changing — the way it’s created, distributed and enjoyed advancing with the connected landscape of technology. Since the first music streaming platform was introduced in the late 1990s, how we consume music has become more centralized to web-based services.

Before Spotify, iHeartRadio, and Pandora, there was Internet Underground Music Archive (IUMA), Last.fm and Napster. While the services and sites have been tweaked and updated over the years, the main goal has always been the same: to give people access to on-demand music. In 2016, the United States alone saw 431.7 billion music streams, up nearly 40% from the previous year. 51% of all U.S. music revenue in 2016 was also attributed to online music streaming, racking up $2.48 billion over the year.

Americans are consuming more music than ever before. Of course, as music streaming continues to rise in popularity, traditional album sales (even digital album sales) continue to plummet.

Why Streaming Is “Too Big to Fail”

The music industry has always had a love-hate relationship with music streaming services. On one hand, these platforms make music incredibly accessible and place artists’ music in front of more ears. On the other hand, streaming services are notorious for providing a minimal payout to the musicians themselves.

No matter your personal or professional stance on the debate, music industry and streaming service executives have realized that they need to work together to survive. Recent lengthy negotiations between Spotify and Universal Music Group led to a multi-year licensing deal to benefit everyone:

“This partnership is built on a mutual love of music, creating value for artists and delivering for fans…We know that not every album by every artist should be released the same way, and we’ve worked hard with UMG to develop a new, flexible release policy. Starting today, Universal artists can choose to release new albums on premium only for two weeks, offering subscribers an earlier chance to explore the complete creative work, while the singles are available across Spotify for all our listeners to enjoy.”

– Daniel Ek, Chairman and CEO of Spotify

The contract has some obvious compromises, like Universal agreeing to lower royalty rates and Spotify allowing Universal to exclude free users from listening to new releases for up to two weeks. These less-than-perfect negotiations show us just how co-dependent the relationship between labels and streaming services has become.

Music Streaming: Today’s Top Services

Last year, Spotify was the reigning leader of streaming services, experiencing the fastest subscriber growth in the entirety of its 7 years in business in the last half of 2015 alone. While the site was worth more than half of the global recorded music industry at the time, industry leaders can quickly change.

Pandora

It’s easy to see how quickly the streaming industry changes from year to year, and even from month to month. Just last year, Spotify was arguably the most popular, fastest growing streaming service in use. In comparison to this knowledge, the chart below shows the percentage of Americans aged 12+ who listened to the following music streaming services in the past month (February 2017).

As you can see, Pandora has a visible lead at 32%, with Spotify trailing behind at 18% of Americans aged 12+ listening in. Key Pandora statistics for 2017 include:

  • 4.39 million subscribers
  • 81 million monthly listeners
  • $1.55 – $1.7 billion projected revenue
  • 18 – 24 years old largest age group of users

Spotify

Spotify has been through some major ups and downs over the past couple of years. While the number of listeners Spotify sees each month is impressive, the company reported an operating loss of 184.5 million euros ($195.5 million) just 2 years ago. Overall, Spotify is seeing growth and change internationally; the company is expanding efforts and attempting to shift their focus to supporting artists, rather than their own profitability.

The chart above shows the number of paid subscribers that Spotify has had, from 2010 to 2017. Other key Spotify statistics for 2017 include:

  • 50 million subscribers
  • 100 million listeners
  • 20,000 songs added per day
  • 60 countries in service and counting

Apple Music

By far the newest to the game, Apple Music has seen relatively consistent growth since launching 2 years ago. While experts banking on Apple’s market share and notoriety in hardware/software speculated that it would surpass Spotify’s number of listeners, Spotify has so far kept Apple Music at an arm’s length away.

This chart shows the steady gap between Apple Music and Spotify subscribers from 2015 to today. As each service releases information on new milestones, we’re curious to see how things look in another 6 months. Key Apple Music statistics for 2017 include:

  • 20+ million subscribers
  • 30% growth in subscribers in the past year
  • $7 billion in revenue in 2016

Top 5 Most Amazing Web Series on YouTube Right Now

You’ve seen our roundup lists for our favorite YouTube comedy channels, news channels, and even science and technology channels before; sufficed to say, we’re big YouTube fans in general. While we’re usually busy streaming and downloading from Netflix, and other services with amazing shows, YouTube is one platform that’s been quietly dominating the online streaming scene.

Did you know shows like Broad City, Portlandia, and Billy on the Street started as a web series online? It’s the number one way for video creators, writers, comedians and other media creatives to truly shine, without the need of a contract. While you can subscribe to YouTube Red for unlimited access to all of their new, original content and web series, not everyone wants to pay to play. For everyone else on the standard YouTube site, there are still some super-creative, well-done mini-web series to get caught up on.

The Misadventures of an Awkward Black Girl

Issa Rae is well on her way toward production stardom for her well-crafted video projects. One that we’re particularly in love with is The Misadventures of an Awkward Black Girl, which was released on YouTube in 2011. With a full two seasons and short episodes averaging just a few minutes each, it’s a quick binge session to catch up with (and finish) this brilliant series that was turned into a book. Plus, Issa Rae offers more videos and series on her main channel. Watch and record The Misadventures of an Awkward Black Girl on YouTube using Replay Media Catcher.

Ladies Room

This Mumbai-based lady-duo has been quietly killing it with their hilariously real comedy, Ladies Room. Mainly based in, you guessed it, stalls from various ladies’ bathrooms, the two comediennes rant through things like pregnancy scares, narrowly missed arrests, and accidentally consuming illegal substances. The humor is dangerous, relatable, and laugh-out-loud funny, reminiscent of predecessors like Broad City. Watch and record Ladies Room on YouTube using Replay Media Catcher.

The Actress

Actresses who are looking for new work and glory on the big screen can often have a rough, dramatic life. The Actress chronicles the life of one such struggling star in particular, and delicately balances the hilariousness and despair associated with “becoming a star.” If you love the humor of shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm and Ricky Gervais’ Extras, you’ll love the squirm-inducing, almost painful-to-watch situations in this 3-season mini web series. Watch and record The Actress on YouTube using Replay Media Catcher.

H+

Who says you can’t manage real effects without a full production team? The team behind H+ has mastered the art of creating a gripping, graphics-based series without a large budget. Utterly confusing and yet completely binge-worthy, H+ is a futuristic-style drama that dives into the complexities of technological implants that take things too far. Watch and record H+ on YouTube using Replay Media Catcher.

Video Game High School

Many high school teen’s dream-come-true, Video Game High School (VGHS) is a feature-length YouTube series that follows a gamer named Brian who is recruited to attend a very special school after winning a tournament on live TV. Laden with fun humor and some surreal absurdities, this 3-season mini web series is as charming and goofy as it is creative. Watch and record Video Game High School on YouTube using Replay Media Catcher.

Rock Hall of Fame 2017: Download Music From the Greats

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame celebrates the most influential music artists, groups, and singer-songwriters in the industry’s history. With so much excellence in music over the decades, they are pumping out a fresh new round of inductees every single year.

This year was no different — the Hall of Fame honored several incredible musicians and bands that have changed the course of music itself over time. Check out some of the best music from the 2017 Rock Hall of Fame Inductees here — you can use Replay Music to record all of your favorite songs from Spotify!

Electric Light Orchestra (ELO)

“Electric Light Orchestra, or more popularly known as ELO, were formed in Birmingham England in 1970 when Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood, members of The Move, had the vision to start a new project that would create modern rock and pop songs with classical overtones.” – Rock Hall of Fame

Joan Baez

“If you’ve seen Joan Baez live you’ll know the simmering charismatic presence that draws you into her performance. It’s a powerful force that saw her cross over from her folk roots into the mainstream, achieving gold albums in the 70’s and also provided a platform for her lifetime’s work, championing civil rights and human rights, highlighting the downtrodden, standing up against discrimination and reminding us it’s not always only rock ‘n roll.” – Rock Hall of Fame

Journey

“Call it what you will – Arena Rock, Stadium Rock, Concert Rock – the music of Journey defined the big rock and roll sound of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Formed in San Francisco in 1973, the group was initially a combination of ex-Santana members Neal Schon and Gregg Rolie, and ex- Frumious Bandersnatch members.” – Rock Hall of Fame

Pearl Jam

“When they released their debut album, Ten, in August, 1991, Pearl Jam were a band of young unknowns to anyone not from Seattle, Washington. At home, Pearl Jam were practically a supergroup – founded in 1990 at a crossroads of classic rock, Seventies heavy metal and hardcore punk, just as that city’s underground scene was about to go worldwide.” – Rock Hall of Fame

Tupac Shakur

“Beyond his popularity, Tupac Shakur is one of the most complex figures to emerge from hip-hop – really, to emerge from any art form. His naked emotion and fearless personal revelation were a direct influence on MCs from Eminem to Kendrick Lamar.” – Rock Hall of Fame

YES

“Yes is the most enduring, ambitious and virtuosic progressive band in rock history. By fusing the cinematic soundscapes of King Crimson with the hard rock edge of The Who and the soaring harmonies and melodies of Simon and Garfunkel, they took progressive rock from a small audience of aficionados to radio airwaves and football stadiums all over America.” – Rock Hall of Fame

Nile Rodgers

“Nile Rodgers is one of those rare musical talents that can do almost anything. He began his journey as a session musician in his hometown, New York City – playing with the Sesame Street traveling band, and then as a house band member at the Apollo. In 1977 Rodgers formed the funk/disco/soul band CHIC along with bass player Bernard Edwards.“ – Rock Hall of Fame
