The History of Our World in 18 Minutes

David Christian

In this talk, David Christian uses incredible graphics, illustrations and stats to illustrate the history of the world, from the “Big Bang” until the creation of the internet. This not-to-be-missed talk is fascinating and inspired, and is one of the best TED Talks we’ve seen.

How Great Leaders Inspire Action

Simon Sinek

In his simple but inspirational talk, Simon Sinek examines what makes  a leader truly great. His theory? Great leadership all begins with asking the question: “Why?”

Your Body Language May Shape Who You Are

Amy Cuddy

What is your body language saying about you? If you’re social scientist Amy Cuddy, it’s less about what you are saying with your body language to others, and more about how you use your body language to tell yourself powerful messages. Her theory? By assuming certain poses, we can actually become who we want to be.

Zombie Roaches and Other Parasite Tales

Ed Yong

This talk is given by scientific journalist Ed Yong, who explores the world of parasites and bacteria, and how they drive host organisms to do their bidding, even at times to their own self-destruction. It’s truly a fascinating talk for anyone who has ever considered the inner-life of living beings. The talk leaves the viewer compelled to ask serious “What-if’s” about the possibility of the free will of human beings themselves.

Love, No Matter What

Andrew Solomon

In this poignant talk, author Andrew Solomon explores the difference between what it means to love versus accept someone, unconditionally. He shares his findings after talking with dozens of parents of children that present unique challenges. He asks the difficult question: “How do you love someone, anyway?” This engaging and eye-opening talk is not to be missed.

The Museum of Four in the Morning

Tom Rives

In this funny and enthralling talk, Tom Rives takes the audience on a journey of his minor fixation with the time 4am, and he details how it led to a small revolution of crowd-sourced references to this time. Through literature, pop-culture, science-based references, this time so resonated with so many people, he was able to create a museum online: The Museum of Four in the Morning. Intensely peculiar and deeply satisfying, this talk is an eye-opener and not to be missed.

Do Schools Kill Creativity?

Sir Ken Robinson

In the classic TED talk of all TED Talks, Sir Ken Robinson creates a powerful yet entertaining argument about what schools are really inspiring in our children, and proposes how schools can actually foster creativity in kids to create a better future.

How to Stream & Record MLB Playoffs Online

Want to watch the MLB Playoffs without cable? For cord-cutting sports fans, finding and accessing live streaming baseball games online can be a struggle.

This year’s postseason games are no different, airing on the 5 tried-and-true cable networks: Fox, Fox Sports 1 (FS1), ESPN, TBS, and Major League Baseball Network (MLBN) — all of which won’t let you tune in without an antenna, unfortunately. Luckily, we were able to scrounge up some online options for you to live stream the MLB Playoffs and record with Replay Video Capture for Windows and Replay Video Capture for Mac.

Take a look at the full MLB Playoffs schedule here and the most up-to-date bracket below:

Hulu Live TV

Hulu’s live streaming service is definitely powerful and super easy-to-access. With a feature to watch Hulu live TV through some major networks, baseball fans can also catch the 2017 MLB postseason here. With a $39.99/month price tag for the subscription, it’s a little on the pricey side, BUT if you’re a dedicated fan looking forward to all that 2017 postseason has to offer, it’s probably worth investing in.

The pros:

  • Tap into a free trial for the postseason and cancel afterward if you want to save some cash.
  • Access 50+ top channels including sports and news from MLB, FS1, Fox, and dozens more.

The cons:

  • A $39.99 monthly subscription may not be sustainable for most budgets.

MLB.TV

MLB.TV subscribers already have streaming rights to some of the best postseason games. While the MLB’s blackout policies prevent it from actually live streaming the playoffs in some areas, archived streams are available to everyone in blacked-out areas as soon as 90 minutes after each game ends. Not currently a member? This may be one of the simplest options for watching and recording the games with Replay Video Capture.

The pros:

  • Available to watch postseason games on multiple devices.
  • Watch MLB games during the regular season and beyond.

The cons:

  • The package does not provide U.S. viewers with access to the entire postseason.
  • Tou’ll need to authenticate your MLB.TV account through your pay television provider (aka, still have a cable subscription)

These restrictions ONLY apply to U.S.-based viewers, however. Subscribers outside the United States can watch every postseason and World Series game on more than 400 devices, no authentication needed!

Never miss a pitch, slide or home run again. MLB fans can use Replay Video Capture to easily record the Playoffs online from any of the above sources!

Replay Video Capture is the easiest way to capture any baseball game on your screen and turn it into a high quality, video movie file. Make personal copies of your favorite MLB Playoffs games and keep them forever, in whatever format you want.

9 Powerful Hacks for the Ultimate Netflix Experience

Love kicking back for a relaxing night with Netflix? Us too. No matter how much time you spend watching, though, you’ll never be a real power user if you don’t poke around under the entertainment hood. We took the time to really dive in (so you don’t have to), and rounded up a collection of tricks will greatly improve your Netflix experience.

Here are our top tips to take your Netflix binges to the next level:

1. Switch to high quality

High quality is the best quality when you’re enjoying movies online. You can manually force HD playback on Netflix on your TV to ensure your media is always shown in the highest-quality possible. First, make sure that your internet connection supports streaming 5 megabits/second or more, then log in and go to Account Settings > Playback Settings to select high quality.

(Note: Chrome users won’t be able to use this trick – sorry!)

2. Stream off peak hours

This may seem a little more on the obvious side, but choosing to stream Netflix shows NOT during peak hours will always award you with better quality. When less people are using Netflix overall, it improves downstream data traffic and thus, your viewing experience.

3. Use your phone as a remote

Lost the remote in your couch cushions again? You can turn any smartphone into a remote control just by downloading the Netflix app for iPhone, Android or Windows Phone. Once installed and synced properly, you’ll be able to play, pause, stop and browse all from your connected device. Technology rules.

4. Create multiple profiles

We all have those guilty, yet amazing, pleasures we jump to when no one else is around to judge our viewing habits. Now you don’t have to hide when you create multiple profiles on Netflix! It’s free, easy to set up, and you’ll be able to generate a different profile for your chick flicks, horror movies, or anything else you may want to keep separate from your main account.

5. Say goodbye to buffering

Buffering movies and shows on your laptop can be a serious time-waster. To get rid of buffering in Netflix while playing a title, select Shift+Opt (Shift+Alt for Windows) and left click to open up a “hidden” menu called the Stream Manage. You’ll find buffering fixes, along with some other helpful tips!

(Note: For Chrome users, press Ctrl+Shift+Alt/Opt+S to access this menu.)

6. Find the best flicks

Reddit brings out the best (and sometimes worst) parts of the Internet. Use it to your advantage and head to r/netflixbestof to check out all of the best, most painstakingly-selected shows and movies to see so you never have to browse aimlessly again.

7. Record anything for later

Technology now allows us to record streaming movies and television shows from Netflix to watch forever, even after the site has taken them down. Using Replay Video Capture, you can screen record ANYTHING on Netflix in amazingly high-quality formats.

8. Enhance your viewing

Browser extensions are better than they’ve ever been. With one add-on in Chrome called Netflix Enhancements, you can instantly access IMDB profiles, movie trailers, pop-up ratings from sources like Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes, and more. You can even customize what you see once it’s installed.

9. Utilize keyboard shortcuts

Because streaming TV shows and movies should be as efficient as any other kind of digital hacking, Netflix keyboard shortcuts exist to streamline your viewing:

  • Play/Pause – Space bar OR Enter key
  • Play – Page Up key
  • Pause – Page Down key
  • Enable Full screen – F key
  • Disable Full screen – Esc key
  • Rewind 10 seconds – Shift + Left Arrow
  • Fast Forward 10 seconds – Shift + Right Arrow
  • Volume Up/Down – Up Arrow/Down Arrow
  • Mute On/Off – M key
  • Toggle by frame – CTRL + Space bar

Here are the best romantic movies you can stream online now:

1. Titanic (1997) // Amazon Prime

(GIF via thefilmagazine.com)

When you think of super-romantic 90’s movies, Titanic comes to mind first just about every time. It’s the quintessential Valentine’s Day movie that blasted DiCaprio and Winslet into stardom, as well as a beautifully-directed visual experience. If you’re gonna snuggle up to one film this year, make this one it. Stream Titanic online and record from Amazon Prime with Replay Video Capture

2. How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days (2003) // Netflix

(GIF via itxelac.tumblr.com)

Well before Interstellar and True Detective, Matthew McConaughey was an early 2000’s heartthrob in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. The movie follows McConaughey’s character (a high profile ad guy) who places a bet that he can make any woman fall in love with him in 10 days. Plot twist! Kate Hudson’s character has a different agenda. Stream How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days online and record from Netflix with Replay Video Capture

3. Love Actually (2003) // Netflix

(GIF via maudit.tumblr.com)

There’s something about a British romantic comedy that’s just overwhelmingly wonderful. Love Actually is one of the most-watched flicks from year-to-year, and understandably so. With endless A-list actors and other familiar faces, and a weaving plot of friendships and love stories, it’s a film of unrequited feelings and classic charms. Stream Love Actually online and record from Netflix with Replay Video Capture

4. Annie Hall (1977) // Hulu

(GIF via totalfilm.tumblr.com)

You’ll either love it or hate it, but Annie Hall is a classic that’ll never be anything less. Arguably Woody Allen’s best film of all time (and one that he also stars in), it’s a perfectly-written rom-com that covers every angle of new and neurotic love. With Diane Keaton gleaming as Allen’s love interest, it’s a stunning representation of life and love in the 1970’s. Stream Annie Hall online and record from Hulu with Replay Video Capture

5. Amélie (2001) // Hulu

(GIF via  antrinh53.tumblr.com)

Love foreign films? Quirky plot points? Beautiful cinematography? Amélie is one of those incredibly whimsical, romantic journeys that can break down language barriers (and probably the ones in your heart, too). A girl who takes pleasure in the little things in life, Amelie’s goal in life is to help others, including a lonely shop owner. Stream Amélie online and record from Hulu with Replay Video Capture

6. Runaway Bride (1999) // Amazon Prime

(GIF via splendiferoushoney.tumblr.com)

She can’t commit, but she’s so darn endearing! In quite possibly one of Julia Roberts’ most well-known, highly-acclaimed roles, Runaway Bride is a late 90’s romance we’ll love forever. With Richard Gere playing the older, handsome man attempting to get this pathological wedding-ditcher to finally settle down for good, it’s got the spirit and heart to make us “aww” all over the place. Stream Runaway Bride online and record from Amazon Prime with Replay Video Capture

7. Pretty in Pink (1986) // Amazon Prime

(GIF via youtube.com)

It doesn’t matter if you grew up in the 1980’s or not — Pretty in Pink is a timeless coming-of-age film that more than likely inspired your teenage love life. Another iconic John Hughes film, it features a young, unpopular and terribly lovesick Molly Ringwald whose infatuation with the trendy, rich boy in school is basically all-consuming. Stream Pretty in Pink online and record from Amazon Prime with Replay Video Capture

8. Lars and the Real Girl (2007) // Amazon Prime

(GIF via google.com)

We still can’t quite tell if it’s more bizarre or creative, but Lars and the Real Girl is most certainly unique. Ryan Gosling (as Lars) and his girl (an anatomically correct doll) have an unconventional kind of love that most people just don’t understand. If you’re open-minded and your loved one is too, it’s a super-weird, can’t-miss kind of love story. Stream Lars and the Real Girl online and record from Amazon Prime with Replay Video Capture
