The 2020 Academy Awards Recap

The 92nd Academy Awards have come and gone, and with them, brought an offering of some incredible movies from 2019.

From epic speeches, to history-making wins, it was a cinematic year not to be missed. And while there was a host of excellent nominees for “Best Picture”, as always, only one could take home the golden statue.

Whether you saw those movies in theaters, or if you managed to catch them on Netflix, there were quite a few strong contenders this year in the “Best Picture” category, and the time has finally come to recognize our favorites from this Oscar season.

If you haven’t had the chance to catch all of the nominees, we’ve got you covered. We’ve put together a list of all the Best Picture nominees, so you can capture them, watch them and be ready to discuss the highlights with your friends in the Oscars’ aftermath. With Replay Video Capture, you won’t have to miss out on any of the year’s best movies.

Cheesy teleprompter intro aside, the nominees for Best Picture are…

Marriage Story

Catch “Marriage Story” on Netflix!

In this heart-wrenching look at separation and divorce, an all-star cast leads this incredible and moving story of a family trying to find a path forward while at the same time, confronting the reality that their marriage is over. With Scarlet Johansson and Adam Driver nominated for Best Actress and Best Actor, respectively, you can expect A Marriage Story to pull at your heartstrings and raise thought-provoking discussions about marriage and divorce..

Jojo Rabbit

Catch “Jojo Rabbit” in theaters!

In this coming-of-age film directed by Taika Waititi, a young boy struggles to find his voice in Nazi Germany. Jojo, the titular character, is faced with an internal conflict as he tries to find his place as a cadet in the Hitler Youth organization, after learning that his mother is harboring a young Jewish girl in their attic. What makes this satirical coming-of-age comedy unique is Jojo’s imaginary friend who bears witness to Jojo’s life lessons through it all — Adolf Hitler himself.

Joker

Catch “Joker” for purchase on Amazon Prime Video!

In one of the most brilliant and disturbing films of the last year, Todd Phillips’ Joker is a study of the motivations that ultimately lead the titular character, Arthur Fleck, into villainy. Bleek and spellbinding, the movie takes a voyage into the well-known Batman story and flips it inside out. Joaquin Phoenix’s performance earns him a well-deserved Oscar in this never-before-told origin story of Joker that is not for the faint of heart.

1917

Catch “1917” in theaters!

In a wartime epic that cleaned up at the Golden Globes, Sam Mendes’ 1917 is a tale of bravery and sacrifice that is rumored to have been inspired by war tales of the director’s own grandfather. Not just simply another depiction of World War I, the film follows two British soldiers who receive time-sensitive and seemingly impossible orders. They must cross into enemy territory in order to deliver a message that could potentially save the countless lives of their fellow comrades, including the brother of one of the soldiers. If not for the story, 1917 is worth watching for the cinematography alone, as it was shot unconventionally with a series of continuous, uncut shots that were then uniquely connected to give the feeling of one long take.

Ford v Ferrari

Catch “Ford v Ferrari” in theaters or rent on Amazon Prime Video!

Ford v Ferrari is the incredible true-life story between two friends, American automotive designer Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon) and former British race car driver, Ken Miles (Christian Bale), who take on Ford’s rival Enzo Ferrari with their revolutionary vehicle in the race of their lives at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France in 1966. The film is a perfect mix of sport, humor and drama for racing enthusiasts and not only.

The Irishman

Catch “The Irishman” on Netflix!

In Martin Scorsese’s turn at producing and directing a Netflix original, we get a crime drama to end all crime dramas. Starring Robert DeNiro (Frank Sheeran), Joe Pesci (Russell Bufalino) and Al Pacino (Jimmy Hoffa), the movie is an epic story of organized crime in post-war America as told through the eyes of Sheeran, a World War II veteran. The Irishman chronicles the disappearance of legendary union boss Jimmy Hoffa, while offering an enlightening journey through the hidden world of organized crime.

Parasite

Catch “Parasite” in theaters!

Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite was a mover and shaker at this year’s Academy Awards; the film took home the most awards, including Best Picture, making it the first time ever that a foreign language film has won the category. Offering dark humor, drama and countless edge-of-your-seat moments, the film is a depiction of greed and class discrimination, and how this unfortunate societal reality threatens the newly formed relationship between the privileged Park family and that of the poor Kims.

Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood

Catch “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” for purchase on Amazon Prime Video!

Quentin Tarantino’s controversial ninth film stars, most notably, Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role of Hollywood actor Rick Dalton, Brad Pitt as Cliff Booth, Dalton’s best friend and stuntman, and Margot Robbie as Sharon Tate. The film follows Dalton and Booth as they struggle to stay relevant and active in the Hollywood scene and as a surprise, touches on the unfortunate story of the Charles Manson cult and the murder of Sharon Tate. For those who have missed a good story with the classic gory twist of Tarantino, topped off with a star-studded cast: this one’s for you.

Little Women

Catch “Little Women” in theaters!

The movie Little Women is based on the beautiful tale of four sisters in the post-Civil War era in the United States, penned by Louisa May Alcott. The March sisters include Jo, Amy, Meg and Beth. Jo is a writer living in New York. Amy studies painting in Paris and has a fortuitous meeting with a childhood crush who proposed to her sister Jo but was ultimately turned down. This scorcher stars Robert DeNiro, Joe Pesci and Al Pacino, playing Frank Sheehan, Marty Bufalino and Jimmy Hoffa, respectively. If you love mafia movies, you won’t want to miss this one, with the masters of mob cinema at the helm. CGI graphics make it possible to see all of these actors play younger versions of themselves onscreen. Pretty incredible.

5 Reasons to Always Download Netflix Movies

When it comes to the hottest movies, or your must-watch series, Netflix is king. It has changed the way we watch movies and our favorite shows at home, and doesn’t show any signs of slowing. Our viewing habits have changed in big ways thanks to Netflix, which through it’s new releases and groundbreaking blockbusters, is making it possible to watch loads of content nearly immediately.

Looking for some reasons to download your movies from Netflix? Here are a few of our biggest:

1. Outlast Netflix’s Rotating Catalog

Probably the number one reason to always download your Netflix favorites is because of what makes Netflix great… Their endlessly rotating catalog. Netflix is great at staying current and offering the freshest releases because of their incredibly narrow catalog and it’s pretty constant rotation. When you have Replay Video Capture, you really don’t have to worry about losing those movies in your queue that you’ve been dying to watch before they leave Netflix for good.

2. Create Your Own Personal Playlist of Amazing Movies

It’s hard to think of a better reason to download movies from Netflix than building your ultimate playlist of favorite movies. While traditionally, it was common to have a collection of pretty great DVDs, now most people are building a collection of their absolute favorite videos on a playlist. It’s fast, mobile, and now it doesn’t have to take up a ton of space to have your all-time favorites at your fingertips. Capturing your favorites from Netflix has really never been easier than with Replay Video Capture.

3. Watch Your Favorites While You Travel

Nothing beats finally taking an incredible vacation. There’s the infinite possibility of exploring somewhere new, coupled with the ability to get in some quality time with that highly-anticipated movie on your Netflix queue. But beyond reaching your dream destination, there are still lots of things to think about, especially if a long journey is involved. But nothing is more disappointing than finally reaching your destination only to find out that that coveted Netflix queue is actually not available in another area! With Replay Video Capture, you can download and save your favorites so you can watch your favorites while you are traveling by air, by train, or by sea.

4. Watch Your Favorites, No Wifi Required

Netflix is one of the best platforms for getting the freshest movies and series that come out. There is a whole catalog online for you curl up with on basically any day and watch for hours on end. The only thing better? Being able to watch your favorites without having to stay tethered to a Wifi connection or use up your phone’s precious data. With Replay Video Capture, you can download an unlimited amount of your favorites and watch them offline.

5. Keep Your Favorites Forever, Even After They Are Long Gone

Netflix isn’t just movies. It’s actually known for some of it’s incredible original shows. But just because you love it and want to keep watching it for years to come doesn’t mean that it will stay around. In fact, Netflix is known for cycling out obvious fan favorites in favor of bringing on new programs. It’s not a bad thing, especially if it means fresh series are on the horizon.

But if you have a favorite that gets cancelled, where does that leave you? Fortunately, with Replay Video Capture, you won’t get stuck with losing your favorite shows. Keep your favorite storylines alive for good by downloading and saving your favorites.

There’s no reason to lose track of your favorite movies and series. Netflix has a fast rotation, but you can be faster… Especially with Replay Video Capture behind you. You never have to miss a thing, and you can keep your favorites to watch over and over, no matter where you are. Ready to get started?
