For the vast majority of users, online streaming is now the preferred method for viewing TV shows, movies, sports, and events, as well as listening to music. While the portion of music listeners turning to streaming to get their fix varies by country, global statistics point to one undeniable trend: the popularity of online music streaming is growing at an incredible rate.
Research shows that streaming increased from 7% of the U.S. music market’s revenues in 2010 to a whopping 80% in 2019. The numbers also point to jaw-dropping growth in revenues from music streaming services by nearly 20% in 2019 to $8.8 billion, accounting for the largest share of the music industry revenues at 79.5%. Here, “streaming” refers to a range of services, including ad-supported services like Vevo and YouTube, ad-supported tiers of services like Spotify, streaming radio services like Pandora and SiriusXM, and premium subscription services like Spotify Premium, Amazon Music, and Apple Music.
Currently, the top three players in music streaming include YouTube, Spotify and Apple Music. YouTube Music saw a 980% growth in the number of active users between 2017 and 2019. The tech giant reports that more than one billion music fans use their services for streaming music, while their YouTube Music and YouTube Premium services currently boast a combined 20 million subscribers. At the end of March 2020, Spotify reported 286 million monthly active users (including paid and free), and current estimates suggest that Apple Music has around 80 million paying subscribers.
While we’ve drastically changed the way that we consume music thanks to music streaming, this global shift hasn’t been immune to controversy. We all remember Taylor Swift’s three-year boycott of Spotify and her feud with Apple Music over royalties. And more recently, there’s a growing camp in the music industry that cannot agree on a valid system of verifying streams to count them toward music ranking charts.
Music streaming services have vowed to work more closely with the music industry and artists. However, as the landscape inevitably continues to evolve, we can’t be certain that there won’t be more controversies in the future.
Regardless of which streaming service you go with, there are tens of millions of songs waiting for you to explore. Cruise on over to one of the top-three streaming services: YouTube, Spotify or Apple Music for an abundance of artists, albums and playlists that you simply won’t be able to get enough of. Record all your favorites with Replay Music so that you can enjoy them whenever and from wherever you are!

There’s nothing like a good musical that pulls at the heartstrings. Based on Victor Hugo’s book, the Les Misérables story is set in the early 19th century and begins with Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman), who after 19 years as a prisoner, is freed by Javert (Russell Crowe), the officer in charge of the prison workforce. After breaking parole to start a new life for himself, Javert vows to bring Valjean back to prison. Eight years later, Valjean meets Cosette and becomes her guardian after the death of Cosette’s mother. However, with Javert’s relentless pursuit, peace and quiet is far from reach.
Featuring Paralympians from around the world, Rising Phoenix is a ground-breaking movie about the paralympic movement, and will premiere on Netflix all over the globe on August 26. The film release was planned to coincide with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, but it will now form an important part of the celebrations leading up to the Games in 2021. The film tells the fascinating story of the Paralympic Games beginning after the devastation of World War II, to the modern day Games as we know them, the third largest sporting event in the world. The Paralympic Games sparked a global movement that challenges each one of us to change the way we think about disability, diversity and human potential.

Oh wait, you haven’t heard? It is the season of new streaming releases, and we are here for it.
First, we’ve got the hotly anticipated Disney+ that is now streaming all your favorites and newly released, never before seen originals that are making waves with all your friends and family. Now, we’ve got Apple TV’s new streaming service: Apple TV+.
Okay, maybe Apple’s newest streaming service isn’t entirely brand new this week, but it is definitely here, having debuted officially earlier this month, and we need to talk about it.
It’s positioning itself as a competitor to Netflix, getting ready to stream your favorite shows and movies, as well as creating its own original content and poising itself as a fixture in your living room.
If you already own an Apple TV device, then the crossover is easy, and it’s simple to subscribe to the brand new service, and get streaming. Ringing in at about $5 a month, it’s a pretty affordable contender to replace or accompany all your classic streaming favorites.
The streaming service offers a free trial period of 7 days, as well as a free music streaming program for students. It’s a pretty great incentive to sign up, even if just to add to your growing army of streaming options. In our opinion, you can never have too many options to watch and capture the best shows streaming online.
An added bonus of Apple TV+? Shows and movies are available to watch online and offline, from any Apple device.
Luckily, Replay Video Capture is here to make sure that no matter where you are watching, you can capture your favorite movies and shows (and even a few new ones!)…
We’ve got great news for Disney fans, or just for all the movie-lovers out there…
All your favorite Disney movies can now be found in a brand new home, Disney+ (pronounced “Disney Plus”). It’s time to say a brief “goodbye” to old classics like “The Lion King”, and new crowd pleasers like “Coco”, who’ll be leaving the other popular streaming sites to live in one handy place… Disney+. Now you can enjoy a full roster of all your favorite high-quality family favorites from the convenience of one central location.
This brand-spanking-new streaming service has just debuted this week, launching officially in the US, Canada and the Netherlands on November 12th. (If you are in Australia or New Zealand, stay tuned for November 19th, as it’s set to release there on that date…)
And while this highly anticipated streaming service has been long-awaited, it definitely holds its fair share of mystery. Luckily, we are here to help you get the latest on your favorite family-friendly movies and shows, so you can browse and capture till your heart’s content.
Disney+ is a subscription streaming service, so it’s a paid service, but at $6.99 a month (or $69.99 per year) it’s priced competitively with the services you are already subscribing to. The caveat is that it is primed to be the exclusive source to find all of the titles that are proprietary, so you won’t be able to get them on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video anymore. To see them, you’ll need to get a subscription to Disney+.
However, just like all of the streaming services you know and love, Disney+ will be available to watch online, on RokuTV or streaming devices, or AppleTV and more.
Disney+ will act and function a lot like your favorite streaming services, but it will exclusively feature content from Disney and its partners. Expect to see titles from:
Star Wars & Lucasfilm
Twentieth Century Fox
Maybe one of the coolest features is that besides getting your favorite family-friendly titles, Disney+ will also begin production on original movies and series. The latest offerings? A live-action remake of “Lady and the Tramp” and a Star Wars live-action drama series: “The Mandalorian”. The two brand new features will headline the new Disney+ lineup.

Applian has always been a customer-oriented software company. With a number of products that help people record video and audio off of the Internet, we’ve learned a thing or two about customer service over the years. With this in mind, we thought we’d share how we roll. And, we care so much about it that this one is a double volume post (stay tuned for part 2!).
You can’t please everyone… but try really hard!
Customers write in with all sorts of questions. Everything from “What’s my Activation Code?” to “Why can’t I record this video while my computer is off?” Some questions have easy answers; others require a bit of investigation. So how do we keep the conversation positive and helpful all the time?
1. We actually READ what you write. It’s important that we resist the urge to skim communications and jump to the answer. Yeah, yeah, we know it happens. But if you treat emails like a grocery list, you’ll likely miss something and provide bad or incomplete information.
2. We recognize that your time is valuable. Just like you, we aren’t glued to our inboxes (actually, that’s not really true – we’re pretty glued). Regardless, we want you to get back to the important stuff, like using our products. So we always try to get all the information needed with the least amount of back-and-forth communication possible.
3. Don’t be a jerk! That goes for both the support team and the customer. The anonymity of the Internet can often lead people to type things that they would never say to your face. Thankfully 99.9% of our customers are perfectly charming. Like, people we’d actually hang out with. Every once in a while a bad apple will drop into our inbox and be downright horrid. Our plan? Send it to Tom, our Chief Operations Officer, who has the uncanny ability to turn every scary monster into a cuddly kitten.
4. We’re armed with a team of humans. Our (awesome) software products are downloaded thousands of times per day. So, of course we want to be ready to answer any and all questions. We couldn’t do it without a staff of smart people. Really smart people. Robots are cool and all, but not really our thing.
5. The Special Sauce is important. When customers write in for help, the ticket is answered by the member of our support team that’s most knowledgeable about that particular product. If you need help with Replay Media Catcher, Shellie will be the one to sort it out for you. Cheryl will take all your Replay Music questions. And, Chad & Sheryl will help out with sales and ordering.
As a customer, what are some of the ways that a company can show you that they value your business? We hope we’re on your list of favorite companies. If not, let us know how we can do better!
As a company with multiple products, and leadership located all across the US, we’re committed to being a business that is not only in touch with our customers but with each other. As they say, teamwork makes the dream work, right?
A successful software company doesn’t always need to operate out of an office, and for us to have the talent that makes Applian what it is today, we can’t possibly have everyone in the same place at the same time every day. That being said, there are some tricks we’ve learned to make sure that our team stays productive, no matter where they have a desk.
Email. Email. Email.
Obviously, this is the main form of communication in any office — remote or cubicle — everyone needs an effective email client. Aside from that, we also have developed some tricks to get the most out of constructing and composing our inbox.
Voice recognition is great for any (ahem) “slow-typers” or for those moments when you, say, slip off your bike and break a wrist? Yeah, ouch. We like Windows 7 Voice Recognition software on PC.
Don’t underestimate bolding, bullet-ing, and highlighting. When you are dealing with a large quantity of email every day, it is important to compose email structure with intention. If you can’t make it short, then space it all out. And don’t be afraid to highlight call-to-action for those who need to know the important stuff. Email-skimming is real, people.
Virtual filing cabinets and whiteboards.
Organizing tasks and records is just as important in a virtual office environment as it is for a physical one. Not only is it helpful to be able to reach back and find past work or finances, but it’s important that everyone else who needs to can. Thank the stars for the cloud!
Everyone needs a basic, overall file storing space, and as a company we like the Dropbox experience as it can sync to desktop.
Basecamp works great for tracking and squishing bugs, especially so the whole Customer Service Team is on the same page and our Leadership Team can follow along and get super-impressed with their awesomeness.
Talk through it.
We’re huge fans of chatting it up. Whether it’s business-related or not (okay, so usually it is). There’s a ton of tools out there to get your whole team in on the conversation, literally.
Skype. Of course. Most of our calls are Video. Mostly so that we can all make fun of whatever might be happening in the background. Typically, we like to record the super-important meetings with our very own Replay Telecorder or Replay Video Capture to get all the good stuff and have it on file if we need to go back to important deliverables.
On occasion GoToMeeting is helpful for client or business development calls. It’s just healthy to simply get up and give someone a call on the phone… talking in-person really does get things done faster and will always have a more personal touch.
Keep outlets open for old school! We use Onebox for those now-and-then customers who want to call in and leave a message, and (believe it or not) we even get faxes sometimes, so we take advantage of eFax for those rare cases.
Real face time.
One of the most important factors is blocking out time to have work retreats and connect with our team one-on-one. These excursions provide the necessary blend of relaxation and company-bonding to make sure everyone feels a part of Applian as a whole. Being behind a computer screen can make you forget the big picture.
It’s 5 o’clock somewhere.
We try to recognize that everyone has their own schedule. Some of us stay up late and code, others need a more 9 to 5 routine, and sometimes, our meetings might interfere with the whole life-work balance. It’s not too unusual for us to have a long Skype session with people dropping in and out to make an errand, attend an appointment, and (most likely) enjoy a good glass of wine. In fact, the latter tends to help when everything gets stressful and miscommunication is likely. On that note, we recommend Black Box Wines / BevMo as an alternative productivity resource and attitude refinement tool.
Whether you work from home, out of a coffee shop, or have your own corporate environment to adapt to, we know it can get tough to stay connected, productive, and inspired. Hopefully, some of those resources can help.
Have some we should know about it? Let us know in the comments below — we’d love to find out!
