6 Countries Digital Nomads Can Move to Right Now

Recently, global travel restrictions have made it difficult for many of us to travel outside of the United States. With the majority of people no longer working in a physical office and unlikely to return to one in the near future, the itch to travel is even greater. The flexibility of remote work only amplifies this desire, as all you really need for your virtual office  is a computer, phone, good internet connection, and the latest version of Replay Capture Suite

Photo and video editing experts Fix the Photo recommend Replay Capture Suite and its impressive suite of programs to capture any online video and audio. Each program comes with a straightforward interface and loads of resources to get started. Fix the Photo notes that Replay Telecorder will come especially in handy for those working remotely during the “new normal”. While for video and photo editing experts, Replay Media Splitter helps streamline their workflow, offering a host of video and audio editing capabilities.

In response to the shift to remote work, a number of countries have made digital nomad visas available to foreigners — in the case of six countries, U.S. nationals are also eligible to apply. For those of us seeking a change of scenery, these are the six countries that you can move your virtual office to right now.

Antigua and Barbuda

Digital nomads earning at least $50,000 annually can live and work on the islands of Antigua and Barbuda for up to two years, thanks to the country’s Nomad Digital Residence Program. At the time of writing the cost to apply is $1,500 for a single applicant, $2,000 for a couple and $3,000 for a family of three or more.

To enter the country, visa holders must present a negative coronavirus test within one week of arrival, and are monitored for any symptoms for up to 14 days.

Aruba

As part of Aruba’s recently announced One Happy Workation program, U.S. visitors can stay up to 90 days by booking a package-stay program at a participating hotel, villa or condominium. Applicants are not required to book a participating stay but the website includes many attractive options to choose from!

Barbados

The Barbados Welcome Stamp program allows visitors earning at least $50,000 annually, including U.S. nationals, to stay on the island visa-free for up to one year. At the time of writing, the online application fee is $2,000 for individuals and $3,000 for families. Those traveling to Barbados for remote work or pleasure during the pandemic must follow new travel protocols.

Jamaica

U.S. nationals are able to travel to Jamaica, however the entry requirements vary depending on the state. Those who identify as business travelers will be given a coronavirus test upon entry into the country. While most travelers are given a 30-day visa on arrival, they can apply for the longer stay visa for digital nomads.

Estonia

On August 1, the Republic of Estonia launched its digital nomad visa that allows foreigners to stay in Estonia for up to a year. Applicants must earn a gross monthly salary of at least 3,000 euros (about $3,530) for a remote job, which is an extension of Estonia’s e-Residency program for foreign entrepreneurs.

At the time of writing, U.S. nationals are not able to visit the country for tourism-related purposes, but they are allowed in for the purpose of work or study. On arrival, foreigners must self-quarantine for 14 days.

Georgia

Lastly, on July 16 this tiny country bordering Russia and the Black Sea, announced a new program for foreigners to work remotely from the country. Applicants will be able to apply soon, and must provide proof of employment, as well as consent to self-quarantine for 14 days to be considered. As in the case of Estonia, U.S. Nationals are not able to enter Georgia for tourism, and must be granted a long-term visa of at least six months, traveling for business with a special permit or a spouse of a Georgian citizen.

While the “new normal” has made everyday pleasures like international travel difficult for many of us, select countries are beginning to open up their borders, particularly to digital nomads. If you have the flexibility and are already working outside of a physical office, consider one of the six countries mentioned above for a change of scenery.

How Online Video Streaming Technology Has Changed

Today, technological advancements are being made faster than ever before. With companies everywhere releasing regular updates to their hardware and software, we are able to do more with greater efficiency and ease. However, this fast pace of change can make it difficult for technology consumers — us — to keep up. Which shiniest gadget to buy? Which software update to install? As it turns out, choosing great software is often much more important than choosing the machine that runs it. With the most up to date version installed, you’ll benefit from the latest features including important security updates, bug fixes and compatibility enhancements.

Recently, online video streaming technology has changed dramatically, and its popularity increased exponentially to match.  So much so, that many companies have been built on offering online video streaming as their main value proposition. The shift comes as no surprise, as in the last ten years online video has become essential to how people are entertained, how students learn, and how businesses communicate. In fact, a recent report estimates that more than two-thirds of global consumer internet traffic is already comprised of video

In the last decade, the most notable changes to online video streaming include:

  • An increase from 10% to 80% of online videos that were encoded using the H.264 compression format (the most commonly used format for recording, compression, and distribution of video content) in a span of just two years, between 2010 and 2012
  • A near-complete shift away from historical Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) as a means of sharing video. With HTTP, a video first needed to be downloaded before playback could begin. Now, users have shifted to custom protocols and servers built for a new type of online video delivery called streaming — what we rely on today
  • The rise and fall of multicast as a means of online video delivery
  • Introduction of Smooth Streaming by Microsoft, HLS, HDS, and DASH, which have driven a resurgence in HTTP-based video delivery

Most users have seen first-hand how greatly online video streaming technology has changed, thanks in part to the long list of applications and offerings available, such as YouTube and Netflix, just to name a few. However, the biggest changes have taken place under the hood. To avoid security and compatibility issues in particular, companies have needed to update their hardware and software over the years in tandem. At Applian, we’re no different! Our experts stay up to date on the latest developments, so that our customers can capture and download online video safely and effortlessly.

With the Replay Capture Suite, you get access to seven incredible programs in one place, and the ability to record any online video of your choosing. Replay Capture Suite gives you the tools to record virtually any format streaming online, and on any device. To get the most out of our software, make sure that you’ve downloaded the most recent copy, which will let you capture and download video with ease, without needing to worry about the latest developments in the online video streaming ecosystem — we take care of that for you!

4 Documentaries That Will Change the Way You Think About Planet Earth

During these the past few months, there was a shared, global surge in awareness about the impact that humans have on the planet. With significantly lower levels of air pollution in main city centres such as Paris, Beijing and New York, the ability to witness bioluminescence in oceans, and the return of wildlife back to cities, humans’ impact on the planet has never been more apparent. For those of us who are most curious about the flora and fauna of the planet, we’ve corralled 4 documentaries that you simply must watch — they will truly change the way you think about the earth!

Night on Earth

There just isn’t another documentary out there that comes even close to Night on Earth. With the help of state-of-the-art technology, the docuseries takes us from the African Savanna to the Peruvian desert to show us the lives of predators and prey, and how closely they are linked to the moon’s cycles. Shot completely during nighttime hours, you will often forget that the images on-screen were recorded in complete darkness. Let Night on Earth lift the veil of the night’s darkness and discover a whole other world you’ve never seen.

Chasing Coral

It was just a few years ago that we began to take notice about experts’ warnings regarding the disappearing coral in our oceans. The scientific community has found that warmer water temperatures can result in coral bleaching — an unfortunate phenomenon that takes place when the water is too warm and corals expel the algae (zooxanthellae) that lives in their tissues, causing the coral to turn completely white. While a bleached coral is not dead, and in fact corals can survive a bleaching event, they are under more stress and are at risk of dying. With that in mind, Chasing Coral is about a team of divers, scientists and photographers around the world who document the disappearance of coral reefs, providing an eye-opening look at the often irreversible human impact on the planet.

The Ivory Game

In this saddening look at the illegal ivory trade in China and Hong Kong, The Ivory Game directors Keif Davidson, Richard Ladkani and their crew spend 16 months undercover to investigate the killing of elephants for their tusks and the smuggling of ivory to China. While the trade is illegal, there is a thriving black market where corrupt business practices and dealings occur, constantly feeding the demand for ivory in China and Hong Kong, where it is seen as a status symbol. The film takes viewers from Tanzania, Kenya, and Zambia to China, Hong Kong, and Vietnam, with a brief stop in London.

A Plastic Ocean

Award-winning documentary, A Plastic Ocean, is an adventure film that was shot in more than 20 locations over the span of four years. Explorers Craig Leeson and Tanya Streeter plus a team of international scientists explore the fragile state of our oceans to reveal the alarming causes and consequences of plastic pollution, while sharing working solutions that can be put into immediate effect.
