As the Fall months creep up on us, there’s no better time to settle down with the very best TV series and movies that Amazon Prime Video has to offer. As the temperatures drop, snuggle up and get cosy with Amazon Prime Video’s unmissable British TV and cinema — full of rugged landscapes and chilly scenes that are sure to keep you feeling toasty and warm while you’re wrapped up inside. Plus, thanks to Replay Media Catcher, you can conveniently download every moment to watch offline, anywhere you want. So what are you waiting for? Grab that blanket, fire up Amazon Prime Video, and get started with some of these unmissable options from across the pond… ready to stream now.

Man vs. Wild

Drinking yak blood, eating a moose heart, and sleeping inside a camel… Think you could survive out in the wild? Maybe not… But you can watch all of Bear Grylls’ amazing wilderness feats from the safety of your sofa as he shows you how to survive when stranded in the world’s harshest environments. Brace yourself for edge-of-your-seat action in this series packed full of fascinating tips and stunning landscapes. It’s exhilarating, and educational, all at the same time.

Howards End

Expect beautiful costumes, very “proper” British accents and some incredible scenery in this TV adaptation of E.M. Forster’s Howards End. Follow the Schlegel sisters as they embark on their journey to seek love and meaning in a world that clashes with their independent and unconventional sensibilities. It’s a period drama that packs a punch, and will quickly have you hooked.

Blackadder

This timeless British comedy series has been a favorite for generations, and for good reason. The show follows the trials, and more often than not, failures of Edmund Blackadder (Rowan Atkinson), a plotting and scheming character looking to do whatever it takes to secure an easy-going life for himself. Each season finds Blackadder and his useless sidekick Baldrick in a different time period, with a different boss and different challenges, but the same old disappointing results. Also starring Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry, Blackadder is an age-old, laugh-a-minute series that’s not to be missed.

Wuthering Heights

Nothing gets more British than a dark and stormy hillside, and Wuthering Heights is full of them. Starring Kaya Scodelario and directed by Andrea Arnold (of American Honey and Fish Tank), this is an exciting and fresh take on the classic novel by Emily Brontë. Get ready for brooding stares, wind-whipped landscapes and tension you could cut with a knife in this superb British adaptation of the all-time favorite book.

Under the Skin

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoSWbyvdhHw&ab_channel=FTZ

If we ever needed a reminder not to accept a ride from a stranger, then this should do the trick. Under the Skin stars an English-accented Scarlett Johanssen as the creepy, murderous, van-driving alien (yep, you heard that right) who preys on the unsuspecting men of Glasgow — picking them up, and leaving them never to be seen again. With striking and shocking imagery from director Jonathan Glazer, this movie offers a mind-bending experience that leaves you tip-toeing between the unwaveringly mundane of drizzly Glasgow, and the fantasy of Johanssen’s otherworldly underworld. You’ll leave this movie full of questions, but that’s all part of the fun.

I, Daniel Blake

Directed by Ken Loach, this Cannes and BAFTA winner tells the story of a widowed carpenter and a single mother who form a formidable bond in their struggle against the complicated and unforgiving British welfare system. Chronicling the reality of daily life for many working-class Brits just struggling to get by, I, Daniel Blake treats its characters with warmth and humanity, when the system treats them as nothing more than a number. It’s a heartwrencher and an eye-opener that will be sure to stick with you.

Tolkien

Nicholas Hoult stars as J.R.R. Tolkien, the incredible author behind the The Lord of the Rings series, in this biopic that covers Tolkien’s early life, career at Oxford University, and the friendships and relationships that defined him. Directed by Dome Karukoski and also starring Lily Collins, it’s a beautifully-shot movie that also takes us up to the outbreak of the First World War and the life-changing events that would inspire his famous Middle-earth novels. This one’s a must-watch for movie-lovers and literature-enthusiasts alike.

King Lear

Acting heavyweights Anthony Hopkins, Emma Thompson and Emily Watson are unstoppable forces in this modern-day adaptation of William Shakespeare’s King Lear. With the play (thankfully) cut down to a more manageable 2 hours, this is Shakespeare not as you know it: think martial arts, helicopters and British military uniforms, to name a few. Plus, with a star turn for Florence Pugh, there’s more than enough acting mastery for you to enjoy on screen. Don’t miss it.

So, now you know which British blockbusters to watch next on Amazon Prime Video, don’t forget that you can catch them all to watch again, anytime, anywhere, with Replay Media Catcher for PC and Mac. It’s the world’s most powerful, convenient online video downloader, capable of saving your content in just one click at up to 10x the playback speed! Don’t hesitate to find out more and try it free today.

How to Record Twitch Live Stream

Twitch is taking the world by storm, and its popularity continues to grow at a rapid pace. Current statistics show that the live streaming platform boasts 140 million monthly users, with 3.8 million streamers in February of this year alone. Compared to February two years prior, the number of streamers sat at around 2.2 million. This puts Twitch well ahead of many traditional media outlets like MSNBC and CNN in terms of viewership. In addition, many YouTube users are switching to Twitch citing YouTube’s strict creator guidelines and rigid Partner program as two main reasons.

Twitch was introduced in 2011 and primarily focused on video games and eSports live streaming. Today, users can browse channels of nearly every genre, from cooking to fitness to “just chatting” videos — there’s something for everyone. The best part about Twitch, and what makes it so attractive to its users, is that each channel is a community. Those tuning in to a live stream benefit from the entertainment factor, while being made to feel as if they’re spending time with friends.

With so many channels to choose from and people to interact with, the only question that remains is: where does one begin? Start with the list of trending channels and go from there — you’ll be surprised at the variety of channels to choose from.

And, to make sure that you don’t miss a single moment from your favorite channel live streams, cue up Replay Video Capture to get recording. It’s the highest quality video capture software for any online video. It can expertly record Twitch live streams playing on your PC screen with perfect quality.

How Does Replay Video Capture Work?

Using Replay Video Capture is easy:

  1. Just press the Get Video button to automatically detect the video window on your screen.
  2. Click Record to start.
  3. Once you’re recording, just click Stop to end, or Pause to pause and resume.

It’s that simple! With the Replay Video Capture screen recorder, you’ll get amazing video quality or compact portable files. You can choose between high-quality, high-speed MPEG-2 files, or smaller Windows Media (WMV) files. You can even run Replay Video Capture from a USB/Thumb drive and save videos externally.

Grab your copy today and tune in to the hottest Twitch livestreams!

How to Plan a Successful Virtual Annual Company Meeting

Woman working on a

Usually the start of September means “back to school” for students, and the end of summer vacation for many of us. For a lot of companies, it’s also the start of strategic planning and annual meetings to hit the ground running after employees return to work. While some students and employees will be physically returning to school and their offices, many will continue to keep their learning online and work remotely for the foreseeable future. As a result, companies will need to navigate a remote work environment, or, in companies where employees have returned to the office already, some changes will need to be made − workflows, meetings and schedules will need to be adapted to comply with new restrictions.

For companies that typically hold an annual company meeting for their employees, this will likely mean a shift to a virtual meeting format, with employees joining via their own workstation − in the office or from home. A virtual annual company meeting requires additional planning and different tools than what we’d expect from an in-person meeting format − especially for companies who will be running a virtual meeting for the first time. For those wanting to ensure that this year’s annual meeting goes off without a hitch, we’ve rounded up some helpful tips and resources to get you there.

Use a Reliable Video Conferencing Software

Recently, we featured six top video conferencing platforms — from Zoom to Skype to Google Hangouts. Each platform comes with its own unique set of features, and depending on the call, one may be a better fit over the others. When it comes to an annual company meeting, where the number of participants is likely to be high, we recommend opting for an enterprise-grade solution like Zoom or Skype for Business. You’re less likely to need to worry about call quality and software-related glitches, and can ensure that all participants have a productive experience.

Engage Participants with Interactive Components

Annual company meetings are typically longer, sometimes multi-day events. Organizers must consider how to keep participants engaged throughout the duration of the meeting, particularly in an online setup. Consider incorporating interactive components throughout the meeting, such as live polling and surveys, and a social wall (a live social media feed), with the help of tools like Whova. Participants may find it difficult to concentrate during a long, online meeting due to distractions in the form of other applications, notifications, and without the ability to be fully present as is the case in an in-person meeting. Interactive components can not only keep participants engaged and focused, but also ensure that they are retaining information.

Share Meeting Documents and Presentations via the Cloud

Google and Dropbox are two of our favorite tools for better productivity and collaboration. Both are easy to use, offer integrations with other software and e-mail, and are an ideal way to share files amongst co-workers. Consider sharing meeting documents and presentations with participants in the cloud − either before or after the meeting. This way, participants needn’t have to focus on jotting down every detail during the meeting, but instead can focus on the presentations and conversations without missing any key points.

Enable Live Video Recording

Finally, a newer technique being adopted by remote-operating businesses (and those using video conferencing) is to use a video recording solution in tandem with notes and minutes with tools like Replay Telecorder. Meeting participants are able to refer back to a particular presentation for further reference, or those unable to attend the live viewing can get up to speed on what was discussed. Replay Telecorder is the most powerful, easy-to-use video conference recorder out there − you can record virtual annual company meetings held on Zoom, Skype, Google Hangouts, Join.me, GoToMeeting, and every other application you can think of with perfect accuracy.

With simple, one-click recording and a fast background mode to capture and multi-task, it’s a super-efficient solution to recording and saving every virtual business meeting, brainstorm, and more. Check out the user guide to see how easy it is to get started.

Best True Crime Podcasts of All Time

After a long day of work and running errands, we all crave some downtime. When we’ve already made it to the bottom of our Watch List on Netflix, but still crave some entertainment, nothing beats a riveting podcast to wind down for the evening. One of our favorite podcast genres is true crime — some of the best storytelling goes on here! If you’re like us and looking to dive into some amazing tales that feature award-winning storytelling, we’ve got the list to get you started! Check out the 5 best true crime podcasts of all time, that we still can’t get enough of…

Serial (Season 1)

If you can believe it, we first mentioned this fan-favorite podcast all the way back in 2014! It’s the year 2020 and Serial is on its third season at the time of writing, but we still can’t get over the first one. From the very first episode, you won’t be able to tear yourself away as you’re taken back to Baltimore in 1999, and hear the story of Hae Min Lee, a popular high-school senior, who disappears after school one day.

Six weeks after her disappearance, detectives arrest her classmate and ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed, for her murder. He maintains his innocence but Adnan also can’t exactly remember what he was doing on that January afternoon. A classmate at Woodlawn High School is sure she saw Adnan in the school library at the time of Hae’s murder. The trouble is, she’s nowhere to be found.

The Vanished

The Vanished is a weekly podcast that focuses on the stories and circumstances of missing people — hosted, narrated and written by Marissa Jones. The show’s aim is to focus on and bring attention to cases that never made it to national headlines or are long-standing cold cases, typically involving people who are drug users or sex workers. Each episode features interviews with the friends and family of the missing person, and on occasion with local law enforcement.

Wrongful Conviction

Wrongful Conviction, hosted by Jason Flom, is a podcast about tragedy, triumph, and injustice within the justice system.. Based on the files of the lawyers who represent them, joined by other criminal justice activists and experts, the podcast features interviews with men and women who have spent years in prison for crimes they did not commit – some of them having even been sentenced to death. From the lesser-known to high-profile such as that of American Amanda Knox, you won’t forget their stories.

Dirty John

The Dirty John podcast was released in October 2017 and quickly received immense public praise — so much so that Netflix picked up on the hype and produced a TV series based on the true story of Debra Newell, a successful interior designer, and the man she meets: John Meehan. John is the kind of man Debra has been waiting for: handsome, attentive, available, and recently returned from a year in Iraq with Doctors Without Borders. Debra’s family doesn’t like John however, and they become grossly entangled in an increasingly complex web of love, deception, forgiveness, denial, and ultimately, survival.

Criminal

Hosted and co-created by Phoebe Judge, Criminal is an award-winning podcast that features stories of people who’ve “done wrong, been wronged, or gotten caught somewhere in the middle.” The podcast launched in January 2014, with new episodes coming out twice a month, and is now one of the most popular podcasts in the world. New York Magazine describes the show’s writing as marvelous, clearly depicting crime as “something sociological, historical, even anthropological — that crime is a function of people, time, and place.” Tune in to check it out for yourself!

Now that you have your choice of the best true crime podcasts of all time — as we see it, anyway — all you need is to get recording so that you can play your episodes on repeat like we do! Not sure how to get started? Check out our handy tutorial to Replay Radio, and start feeding your affinity for true crime podcasts.

What Are We Looking Forward To?

A Knight’s Tale (2001)

If the Heath Ledger nostalgia has hit you, and you’re in the mood for a good chick flick, you’ll want to catch A Knight’s Tale. It’s the story of peasant-born William Thatcher (Heath Ledger) who wants to change his fate, believing that he is destined for greatness. He enlists in a jousting tournament, masquerading as a nobleman so that he can participate, and begins his quest to glory. In the process, he wins the heart of a fair maiden and challenges societal and class norms.

Jurassic Park (1993)

It’s a Spielberg science fiction classic that millions across the globe came to love. The first installment in the Jurassic Park franchise by Michael Crichton is set on the fictional island of Isla Nublar, near Costa Rica. The story follows businessman John Hammond and a team of genetic scientists who have created a wildlife park of de-extinct dinosaurs. Industrial sabotage eventually leads to a catastrophic shutdown of the park’s power facilities and Hammond’s children struggle to survive on the island, now controlled by the very species meant to be controlled.

Immigration Nation (Season 1)

Immigration Nation is a highly-anticipated, six-part series that gives us a rare inside look at the machinery of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The series covers the spring of 2017 to the winter of 2019, following changes to immigration policies implemented by the Trump Administration. Directed by Shaul Schwarz and Christina Clusiau, the series explores both sides of the debate over immigration in the U.S.

Les Misérables (2012)

There’s nothing like a good musical that pulls at the heartstrings. Based on Victor Hugo’s book, the Les Misérables story is set in the early 19th century and begins with Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman), who after 19 years as a prisoner, is freed by Javert (Russell Crowe), the officer in charge of the prison workforce. After breaking parole to start a new life for himself, Javert vows to bring Valjean back to prison. Eight years later, Valjean meets Cosette and becomes her guardian after the death of Cosette’s mother. However, with Javert’s relentless pursuit, peace and quiet is far from reach.

Rising Phoenix (2020)

Featuring Paralympians from around the world, Rising Phoenix is a ground-breaking movie about the paralympic movement, and will premiere on Netflix all over the globe on August 26. The film release was planned to coincide with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, but it will now form an important part of the celebrations leading up to the Games in 2021. The film tells the fascinating story of the Paralympic Games beginning after the devastation of World War II, to the modern day Games as we know them, the third largest sporting event in the world. The Paralympic Games sparked a global movement that challenges each one of us to change the way we think about disability, diversity and human potential.

How Online Video Streaming Technology Has Changed

Today, technological advancements are being made faster than ever before. With companies everywhere releasing regular updates to their hardware and software, we are able to do more with greater efficiency and ease. However, this fast pace of change can make it difficult for technology consumers — us — to keep up. Which shiniest gadget to buy? Which software update to install? As it turns out, choosing great software is often much more important than choosing the machine that runs it. With the most up to date version installed, you’ll benefit from the latest features including important security updates, bug fixes and compatibility enhancements.

Recently, online video streaming technology has changed dramatically, and its popularity increased exponentially to match.  So much so, that many companies have been built on offering online video streaming as their main value proposition. The shift comes as no surprise, as in the last ten years online video has become essential to how people are entertained, how students learn, and how businesses communicate. In fact, a recent report estimates that more than two-thirds of global consumer internet traffic is already comprised of video

In the last decade, the most notable changes to online video streaming include:

  • An increase from 10% to 80% of online videos that were encoded using the H.264 compression format (the most commonly used format for recording, compression, and distribution of video content) in a span of just two years, between 2010 and 2012
  • A near-complete shift away from historical Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) as a means of sharing video. With HTTP, a video first needed to be downloaded before playback could begin. Now, users have shifted to custom protocols and servers built for a new type of online video delivery called streaming — what we rely on today
  • The rise and fall of multicast as a means of online video delivery
  • Introduction of Smooth Streaming by Microsoft, HLS, HDS, and DASH, which have driven a resurgence in HTTP-based video delivery

Most users have seen first-hand how greatly online video streaming technology has changed, thanks in part to the long list of applications and offerings available, such as YouTube and Netflix, just to name a few. However, the biggest changes have taken place under the hood. To avoid security and compatibility issues in particular, companies have needed to update their hardware and software over the years in tandem. At Applian, we’re no different! Our experts stay up to date on the latest developments, so that our customers can capture and download online video safely and effortlessly.

With the Replay Capture Suite, you get access to seven incredible programs in one place, and the ability to record any online video of your choosing. Replay Capture Suite gives you the tools to record virtually any format streaming online, and on any device. To get the most out of our software, make sure that you’ve downloaded the most recent copy, which will let you capture and download video with ease, without needing to worry about the latest developments in the online video streaming ecosystem — we take care of that for you!

Make sure you get the latest version of Replay Capture Suite today to get started with capturing your favorite online videos.

Top 6 Video Conferencing Platforms of 2020

Over the last few months, video conferencing has served as a temporary substitute for various in-person interactions such as professional meetings, social hangouts and entertainment. As a result, we now place a greater reliance on video conferencing platforms for all of these important moments.

While most of us are likely familiar with the best-known video conferencing offerings such as FacebookSkypeZoom and Google Hangouts, there are other platforms out there that you probably haven’t heard of, but deserve your attention!

For all of your virtual work-related and social hangout needs, we’ve rounded up the top 6 video conferencing platforms of 2020. In no particular order, check them out…

For Enterprises

Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is the ultimate corporate video conferencing solution. Designed for seamless efficiency and collaboration, it integrates with Office applications like Word and SharePoint, while its design and infrastructure make it incredibly interactive. It also integrates with Skype for Business.

Microsoft Teams gives other collaboration tools like Slack, who have dominated the market over the last few years, a run for their money — especially because its video conferencing option is just as impressive and powerful as its chat function. Users can launch video conferences directly from their chats, too!

Skype for Business

Skype for Business comes packaged with Microsoft Office 365 and takes the free, standard capabilities of Skype to the next level. It’s an inexpensive solution that doesn’t cut corners, nor does it skimp on the most important features. Video call quality is good and the service is reliable!

All Skype for Business plans include:

  • Unlimited meetings
  • Screen sharing
  • Instant messaging
  • Top-notch security
  • Conferencing for upto 250 participants
  • Effortless integration with Microsoft Office programs like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook

Zoom

Zoom is one of the most popular video conferencing platforms out there — its user base has exploded in the last few months. It has a number of features that make it an ideal option for businesses.

Its free plan includes all of the basic features for video conferencing. Users are not restricted to a limit of meetings, and they can join with the Zoom app or by calling in from a phone line. Video quality is good and the audio can be heard clearly on fast internet connections. Businesses will especially like that with Zoom, users can share screens and annotate with whiteboard functions. It also integrates with Google Chrome and Microsoft Outlook.

For Individuals

Google Hangouts Meet

Google Hangouts Meet is an affordable, no-frills video conferencing solution for businesses and individuals who regularly host video meetings, remotely manage teams, or regularly work from home.

However, as the platform’s features are pretty basic, including its enterprise tier, we recommend it for users looking to make personal video calls or organize social video hangouts. For a truly enterprise-level video conferencing tool users will need to look elsewhere — one of the options above, as a start!

As many of us are GSuite users or at the very least, have a Gmail account, Google Hangouts Meet is accessible and incredibly easy to get up and running.

Facebook

Recently, we discussed Facebook’s launch of its suite of new video messaging and live streaming features across all of its platforms. We were particularly impressed by the announcement of Facebook’s new Room group video chat feature. With this feature, users can create a private video chat room and select the invitees, or take advantage of open hangouts when a Facebook group or event has a video chat happening.

At a time when community has become all the more important, Facebook has become a go-to for those wanting to stay in touch with family and friends.

Houseparty

Houseparty has been a saving grace for all of us looking to stay connected with our social networks — it’s a video conferencing and games room platform all in one! Available for iOS, Android, Mac and PC, it allows up to eight people to video chat at once in a “room.” Users can have unlimited rooms and easily switch between them. Users can stay in the know with notifications when a friend is active on the app. That way, you can join in a chat with your friends (and friends of friends) at any time!

Users can spice things up by playing games including Houseparty Heads Up!, Trivia, Quick Draw, and Chips and Guac! What’s not to love?

When it comes to linking up online, the possibilities are endless thanks to a plethora of impressive video conferencing solutions. Whether you’re dialing in for a business meeting or catching up with friends and family, you’ll be sure to find what you need in one of our picks above. Couple that with the right tools to make sure that you don’t miss out on a single minute and you’re good to go. Our pick? Replay Telecorder. It can record any video conferencing applications in background mode, so you can enjoy an uninterrupted connection for when you need it most.

Getting started is easy. Get your group together, start your video call, and make sure you have the latest version of Replay Telecorder, so that you can save the most important moments for later.
