Applian User Experience: Recording the Best Online Radio Shows

Listening to online radio is quickly becoming a favorite pastime in the United States. Long gone are the days of being glued to your car radio or boombox, we’re in a time of anytime access and TONS of incredible shows to enjoy. According to data from Statista, 65.85 million Americans used online streaming services monthly in 2017 – on average tuning in for close to 15 hours every week! Forecasts from the same source also suggest that 55.8 percent of the entire U.S. population, and as much as 68.4 percent of the U.S. internet users overall, will have become frequent or consistent online radio users by the end of this year, 2018.

There are thousands of online radio shows and live streams that you can listen to any time; but for the vast majority of listeners, it’s all about being able to tune in to their absolute favorites anytime, anywhere. For one of our own customers, radio just so happens to be one of his favorite mediums of entertainment.

“I’ve been recording form the radio since long before I ever heard of Replay Radio. I used to have a dual cassette tape recorder (remember those?) that I hooked up to a timer and to the audio out of my “stereo” (and who remembers those?) so I could get up to 180 minutes at a pop of my favorite radio shows while I was at work (90 minutes on each cassette).”

With such a long-standing connection to the radio, the shift into more digital formats was an adjustment for our user. He recalls to us how that evolution played out:

“Of course, it was a HUGE pain to reset the timer all the time to pick up what I wanted on different days, keep the hardware hooked up, etc. Over the years I wore out four Sony Walkmans listening to these cassettes. But the truth was, and still is, that the only way I could stand to exercise, do the dishes, or do any mindless stuff around the house, was if I could listen to what I wanted to listen to (and do it when I wanted to hear it).

Fast forward to the internet age. Once my favorite stations started streaming I figured there had to be a way to capture those streams. Like all things computer, I soon discovered that there were in fact a number of ways to do it, but it seemed that all were ridiculously complicated, none could be scheduled to record at a certain time or were truly reliable.”

After doing a quick online search for something that could help record his radio shows, our user discovered Replay Radio and was hooked! Using our powerful Replay Radio software, he is able to queue up all of his top live streams to record automatically, never missing a moment. With high-quality recordings of radio shows, he’s able to listen on any device, any time he chooses!

“What do I record every week? My tastes run to jazz, the American Songbook, and Broadway: Singers Unlimited, Radio Deluxe with jazz guitarist John Pizzarelli and his wife, Broadway singer Jessica Mollasky, Johnath Schartz (WNYC), Swing Party (WBGO), Big Band Jazz (WRTI), Voices in Jazz (WRTI), and more. That’s so much music that I can’t find time to listen to all of it!”

No Cable? Here’s How to Watch & Save Every NBA Live Stream

Only a few weeks in, the 2018-19 NBA Season is already shaping up to be an incredibly entertaining and masterful series of games. The hot topics this year: games are still starting so darn late for folks on the East Coast, and the transition to focusing on defensive strategy is really setting an intense pace for every team. According to the NY Times:

Basketball’s evolution has made everything smaller and faster, and offenses are looking for any opportunity to run. This leaves coaches desperately looking for ways to combat the offensive surge.

The Los Angeles Lakers cited transition defense as a reason for signing Tyson Chandler. It’s a reason often given for why the Cleveland Cavaliers fired Tyronn Lue as their coach. And it was the biggest point of emphasis on Sunday when the Milwaukee Bucks made a statement by throttling the ultrafast Sacramento Kings.

Clearly, the game we all know and love is evolving; and, as a result, scoring and pacing is way, way up. If you don’t want to miss a minute of these fast-paced frenzies with the Lakers, the Warriors, the Cavs, the Rockets, and more? Keep on reading for the best way to record and save every NBA game this season.

You can watch and record The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix using Replay Video Capture

Interview with a Vampire (1994)

Can a vampire be misunderstood? It’s complicated. If brooding vampires are your thing, you should definitely check out this Oscar-nominated modern classic about a vampire named Louis who gets lured into the vampire life after personal tragedy hits his family. This follows his saga and complicated relationship with the vampire Lestat as they navigate good and evil in the afterlife. Paranormal Activity (2009)

This supernatural horror flick follows a young couple as they move into a new house in San Diego, which is seemingly possessed by a demonic spirit that follows them around. You can watch and record Paranormal Activity on Hulu using Replay Video Capture.

Children of the Corn (1984)

Children can be such a joy. Or they can be terrifying. If they are in the town of Gatlin, Nebraska, chances are they will have you fearing for your life. Check out this classic that is filled with paranoia, terror, and yes, murder. You can watch and record House on Haunted Hill on Amazon Prime using Replay Video Capture.

Nosferatu (1931)

(GIF Source)

Before vampires were sexy, brooding, or sparkly, there was Nosferatu. This classic uses shadows and suspense to create an atmosphere of sheer terror that can’t be missed. Often billed as one of the scariest movies of all time, this silent movie is a precursor to Bram Stoker’s “Dracula”, but stands in a class of its own. You can watch and record Nosferatu on Amazon Prime using Replay Video Capture.

The Others (2001)

3 Steps to Save (Almost) Any Movie on Your Smartphone

Watch Movies Anywhere

Raise your hand if you’ve been stuck in transit – on your daily commute, long flight, or back seat of the car – and feeling completely bored.

For folks who enjoy a little video entertainment, it can be super tempting to start watching something on your favorite app or service. In fact, a recent study from eMarketer determined that “the average time consumers spend on their mobile devices has increased by nearly a minute per day over the past four years, while the amount of time they spend watching traditional television sets has dropped by more than 30 seconds in the same time period.”

Streaming movies on-the-go isn’t exactly the ideal situation for your (likely) strapped data plan, though. And, while many sites and services now offer the ability to download some very select content to watch offline on your smartphone, the limitations behind WHAT you can actively download and WHERE you can save the file beyond your phone can make things difficult.

Lucky for movie lovers, there’s an easy way to record high-quality movie files from online sources in ANY format needed, so you can save on any mobile device – from your smartphones to your tablets. Replay Video Capture is the only tool out there that can do just that. With powerful software that can track, capture, and save your favorite videos as they play online, you can save movies to your smartphone (or any other mobile device) from places like:

  • Netflix
  • Hulu
  • Amazon Video
  • NBC
  • Comedy Central
  • ABC
  • and many, many more

This means that you can later watch it anywhere and anytime, as often as you wish. No continuous Internet connection is required to watch the movie, once its file has been downloaded and saved!

How to Record & Save Movies in 3 Steps

With Replay Video Capture, it takes just a few quick to-dos to go from incredibly bored to constantly entertained – no matter which mobile device you’re using. Here’s the step-by-step for how to record movies online to save them to your smartphone, tablet, or other mobile devices.

Step 1

Download Replay Video Capture, open the software and start playing the movie on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, NBC, Comedy Central, and just about any other streaming media site that you want to save from.

Step 2

Click Get Video in Replay Video Capture and the software automatically finds and marks the video area on your screen.

In the example below, you’ll see how it works on a YouTube video…

Step 3

Replay Video Capture will start recording and saving your movies!

Here’s how it’ll look as you’re capturing from Netflix…

netflix download movies

With the ability to produce incredibly high-quality video recordings without freezing up your computer, and a powerful background recording mode that lets you capture while you’re doing something else online, it’s the perfect tool for recording and saving movies to your smartphone without being disruptive. After using Replay Video Capture to save movies, TV shows, and other awesome video content available online, you’ll never have to worry about being exclusively offline or without Internet again!

Good to note: The digital file associated with a movie requires storage space on the device you’re using. The file size will depend on the resolution of the movie, as well as its length. Plan to allocate between 2GB and 3GB of storage space for each Standard HD resolution movie, and upwards of between 4GB and 6GB for a 1080p or 4K resolution version of a movie.

Replay Video Capture is also a master for recording…

  • Video games and live streams
  • Webinars and conference calls
  • Skype and video messengers
  • Streaming web cams
  • Presentations and documents

Applian User Experience: Saving Lives with Paramedic Training Videos

For on-staff and volunteer firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and other emergency services, knowing exactly what to do in the most efficient manner possible is always the most important consideration. When training newcomers on the best practices for first response, visual techniques can be the best way to really show, explain, and drive real lessons home – a loyal Applian customer knows this all too well, and uses the software to piece together the most comprehensive training videos possible.

Gary has been designing firefighting and paramedic training videos for over a decade now, and has always been in search of new and interesting video and audio inserts for these videos.

“I came across Applian back then, when getting videos off of YouTube was next to impossible to do – but, when I tried the trial version program, it worked!

I now use the Replay Capture Suite to gather great videos and audio clips from all over the world. When permission is granted from gathered departments to use their materials, I put their department’s name in my credits, and there is a sense of pride when I send a copy of that training video to them and they see themselves, their department, and their full credit at the end of the videos.”

Using the Replay Media Catcher software from our Replay Capture Suite (among other tools), Gary and everyone he distributes these training videos to can benefit from the variety of information that’s pieced together. And, for every paramedic and firefighter that watches these training videos, another life could be changed or even saved!
