The Yearly Top 10: Most Watched YouTube Videos of 2019

Every year, we get excited to review the most popular YouTube videos of the past year.

The year 2019 was no different. It’s pretty fascinating how much things change, and yet… how much they stay the same? So what was everyone watching this year?

Before we break into our countdown, it’s worth noting that YouTube is the second most popular social media outlet in the world. And with the huge range of user-generated content that gets uploaded to the video platform every minute, it’s safe to say that billions of viewers worldwide are tuning in.

But which videos captured the largest audiences worldwide in 2019? According to Statista, YouTube viewers were most interested in searching for music! With a few honorable mentions from the kids, it turns out that this year’s list was dominated by the music that got people’s feet moving. And it wasn’t just the most popular music videos of the year that made the list, but also some of the most popular ones of the decade proved to last as favorites among viewers.

Cases in point?

  1. “Roar” – Katy Perry

In the kickoff to our countdown, Katy Perry’s power anthem is back this year to get people through a workout, a job interview, or even just the morning shower motivation everyone needs to start off the week. Or decade.

  1. “Sugar” – Maroon 5

Would you want Maroon 5 to crash your wedding? If you were one of the lucky couples in Maroon 5’s 2015 video for “Sugar”, it may be the perfect compliment to the happiest day of your life. At 3 billion views in 2019, many viewers wanted to catch a glimpse of the action, accompanied by this catchy tune

  1. “Sorry” – Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber is back at it. Or at least viewers can’t get enough of this megahit by this pop star. In the song that makes listeners hopeful that they, too, can get another chance, nearly three-and-a-half billion views tells us that it’s never too late.

  1. “Gangnam Style (강남스타일) M/V” – PSY

It’s no surprise to anyone at this point that K-Pop is here to stay. But what was one of the first Korean pop hits that reached western shores, solidifying its place on the mainstream music charts? 2012’s ultra popular hit “Gangnam Style”.

  1. “Uptown Funk” – Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars

In a party anthem for the ages, “Uptown Funk” has made it to the Top 10 this year, with 3.7 billion views. Don’t believe us? Just watch.

  1. “Baby Shark” – Pinkfong’s Kids’ Songs & Stories

You heard it here first. We kid. If you have been anywhere near children in 2019, you have probably heard the uber-popular “Baby Shark” playing somewhere near you.

  1. Masha and the Bear: Recipe for Disaster

Here’s a fun fact: Not only was this episode of the Russian animated series in the top 10 list of YouTube videos viewed last year, but it was actually the 5th most viewed YouTube video of all time. Never underestimate the viewing power of children when they find a favorite video to watch on repeat.

  1. “See You Again” – Wiz Khalifa feat. Charlie Puth

In a glorious tribute to the late Paul Walker, this song was featured in “Furious 7”, Walker’s last film with the hit “Fast & Furious” franchise. The popularity of the tribute has persisted, as it’s made its way to this year’s most watched list, with 4.3 billion views.

  1. “Shape of You” – Ed Sheeran

It’s hard not to listen to this song on repeat. And if you feel that way, you are not alone. With over 4.5 billion views, it seems like viewers worldwide are happy to sing, dance, repeat.

  1. “Despacito” – Luis Fonsi feat. Daddy Yankee

It’s still a fan favorite. In arguably one of the most popular songs of the last decade, this springtime banger has made its way onto the Top 10 list for the second year in a row, this time grabbing the top spot with over 6 billion views.

From viral songs, to inescapable kids tunes, with a must-watch viral episode thrown in, 2019 showed us the power of people tuning into YouTube in record numbers. What’s Hot: Apple’s New Video Streaming Service

Season’s Greetings.

Oh wait, you haven’t heard? It is the season of new streaming releases, and we are here for it.

First, we’ve got the hotly anticipated Disney+ that is now streaming all your favorites and newly released, never before seen originals that are making waves with all your friends and family. Now, we’ve got Apple TV’s new streaming service: Apple TV+

Okay, maybe Apple’s newest streaming service isn’t entirely brand new this week, but it is definitely here, having debuted officially earlier this month, and we need to talk about it.

It’s positioning itself as a competitor to Netflix, getting ready to stream your favorite shows and movies, as well as creating its own original content and poising itself as a fixture in your living room.

If you already own an Apple TV device, then the crossover is easy, and it’s simple to subscribe to the brand new service, and get streaming.  Ringing in at about $5 a month, it’s a pretty affordable contender to replace or accompany all your classic streaming favorites.

The streaming service offers a free trial period of 7 days, as well as a free music streaming program for students. It’s a pretty great incentive to sign up, even if just to add to your growing army of streaming options. In our opinion, you can never have too many options to watch and capture the best shows streaming online.

An added bonus of Apple TV+? Shows and movies are available to watch online and offline, from any Apple device.

Luckily, Replay Video Capture is here to make sure that no matter where you are watching, you can capture your favorite movies and shows (and even a few new ones!)…

Not sure how to do it? Take a look at our handy how-to guide, get the latest version of Replay Video Capture, and make sure that you are geared up to get the hottest shows and movies streaming online this season!

Everything You Need to Know About Disney+

We’ve got great news for Disney fans, or just for all the movie-lovers out there…

All your favorite Disney movies can now be found in a brand new home, Disney+ (pronounced “Disney Plus”). It’s time to say a brief “goodbye” to old classics like “The Lion King”, and new crowd pleasers like “Coco”, who’ll be leaving the other popular streaming sites to live in one handy place… Disney+. Now you can enjoy a full roster of all your favorite high-quality family favorites from the convenience of one central location.

This brand-spanking-new streaming service has just debuted this week, launching officially in the US, Canada and the Netherlands on November 12th. (If you are in Australia or New Zealand, stay tuned for November 19th, as it’s set to release there on that date…)

And while this highly anticipated streaming service has been long-awaited, it definitely holds its fair share of mystery. Luckily, we are here to help you get the latest on your favorite family-friendly movies and shows, so you can browse and capture till your heart’s content

The Fundamentals

Disney+ is a subscription streaming service, so it’s a paid service, but at $6.99 a month (or $69.99 per year) it’s priced competitively with the services you are already subscribing to. The caveat is that it is primed to be the exclusive source to find all of the titles that are proprietary, so you won’t be able to get them on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video anymore. To see them, you’ll need to get a subscription to Disney+.

However, just like all of the streaming services you know and love, Disney+ will be available to watch online, on RokuTV or streaming devices, or AppleTV and more.

What’s On?

Disney+ will act and function a lot like your favorite streaming services, but it will exclusively feature content from Disney and its partners. Expect to see titles from:

  • Pixar
  • Marvel Studio
  • Star Wars & Lucasfilm
  • Twentieth Century Fox
  • National Geographic
  • The Simpsons
  • and more…

Maybe one of the coolest features is that besides getting your favorite family-friendly titles, Disney+ will also begin production on original movies and series. The latest offerings? A live-action remake of “Lady and the Tramp” and a Star Wars live-action drama series: “The Mandalorian”. The two brand new features will headline the new Disney+ lineup.

Capture “Lady & the Tramp” with Replay Video Capture!

Are you ready for your streaming to get a little bit more magical? Cue up Replay Video Capture, or check out how to do it if you don’t know already, and get ready to watch your all your Disney favorites!

What’s New on Netflix: Everything Leaving & Coming this November

It’s happening again.

Netflix is updating it’s roster for the season, which means more changes are due on our Netflix queues. And while this means we have plenty of great holiday movies to look forward to, and some very highly anticipated show offerings like The Crown, The Good Place, The Irishman, and more, it does signal a sad end for some of our favorite movies and series that have been making the rounds on the popular streaming site these last few months.

Luckily, with Replay Video Capture, you really don’t have a reason to miss your favorite shows and movies before they disappear into the streaming ether for the foreseeable future. You can still record your favorites before the clock runs out on them.

While we prepare to greet some hotly anticipated titles in the month ahead, let’s take a look back at some of the ones you can still catch and record on Netflix before November bids them adieu.

What’s On It’s Way Out?

November 11
Estocolmo

November 15
The Beginning and End of the Universe
Continuum
Empire of the Tsars
The Green Way Up
Keeping Up with the Joneses
Last Chance to See
Stephen Fry in America
The Wild Chef

November 17
Ascension

November 18
Avec Eric
River

Make sure to capture these titles and more before they leave Netflix!

While it’s always a bit hard to say goodbye to those “almost watched” picks on the queue, there are still some things we are revving our engines to get ready to see.

What Are We Looking Forward To?

The Crown, (Season 3)

For everyone who has been anxiously awaiting the next stylish installment of Netflix original “The Crown”, this November, your wait is finally over. After having two critically acclaimed seasons about the British monarchy with Claire Foy and Matt Smith at the helm, the third season is unique in that the entire royal family is recast as viewers are introduced to the next era of Her Royal Highness’s England.

The Good Place, (Season 4)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRrhLbZ1VwE

In the final season of this wildly popular fan favorite, viewers will follow the original gang as they try their last chance to get into The Good Place. Will they make it?

The Irishman (2019)

In Martin Scorsese’s turn at producing and directing a Netflix original, we get a crime drama to end all crime dramas. This scorcher stars Robert DeNiro, Joe Pesci and Al Pacino, playing Frank Sheehan, Marty Bufalino and Jimmy Hoffa, respectively. If you love mafia movies, you won’t want to miss this one, with the masters of mob cinema at the helm. CGI graphics make it possible to see all of these actors play younger versions of themselves onscreen. Pretty incredible.

Euphoria/Euforia (2019)

This original new drama centers around two brothers who have been living very different lives. When an unfortunate life circumstance hits them both, they are reunited once again. In this drama, both will be forced to discover the mysterious link that further draws them together.

Queer Eye: We’re In Japan! (Season 5)

In this special fifth season, the Fab Five take their talents to Tokyo to help four special participants desperately in need of a makeover. As they help their new friends tackle the areas in their lives that need extra special TLC, the team meet their biggest challenge yet as they navigate a new language, a new culture and new ways to make over a life in-style. Kawai!

Hache (Season 1)

In this Spanish thriller set in 1960’s Barcelona, prostitute Helena finds herself involved in the burgeoning heroine scene as she attempts to make a better life for herself and her family. At turns stylish and sexy, this one is not to be missed!

We’ve listed some highlights, but there are quite a few titles that are leaving the streaming service, which you won’t want to miss out on. A whole slew of Disney movies are also taking flight, in anticipation of Disney’s newest streaming site, Disney+. Don’t miss out on them here, but stay tuned to learn how to watch and capture your favorites with Replay Video Capture.

Not sure how to capture your favorites? We’ve got you covered. Just take a look at our handy how-to guide to learn how easy it is to catch all your favorite movies and series before they disappear. The only catch? If November is moving as quickly as the rest of this year has been, then you don’t have very long to capture your favorites! What is Roku? Our Favorite Streaming Device

By now, most of us are familiar with the incredible options these days for streaming movies and series online.

When viewers are looking for great family viewing, or a favorite series, or even fascinating documentaries to watch or even record, we’ve gotten used to turning to streaming giants like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video.

It’s nice to think that  we can find and discover new favorites to watch anytime we get online, and that the options are endless. With that in mind, it might be helpful to know that there is a new contender that’s making its way on the scene, and it is expanding those options even more. Enter: Roku.

What is Roku?

Roku is a set-top box streaming device that allows you to watch your favorite content online, whether it’s free (think YouTube), or from a paid subscription service like Hulu or Netflix or HBO. It plugs right into your TV, so if you have an HDMI input, you are ready to set up Roku and let it get to work for you.

Roku is also a really  great option for people looking to cut ties with their cable company. It’s not a subscription service, but a device that ends up paying for itself as you watch more and more content online from your favorite services. It even has offerings that are free, in case you aren’t signed up for any subscriptions yet.

Do You Need Internet for Roku to Work?

Roku is a handy little device that allows you to access basically any movie or series that you can find worldwide, and even some of the more difficult to find channels. That being said though, you’ll need a Wifi connection or high-speed internet to get Roku to work for you.

A huge plus? It gives you the option to stream directly from your computer, phone or USB to watch your own saved content on your big screen. Through its proprietary channel “Plex”, Roku gives you the option to open and watch videos saved on your hard drive, which can ultimately save you the need to rely only on your old school media players or extra devices. It’s sort of an all-in-one package, and that makes it awesome. It offers a number of models, so you are sure to find one that fits your lifestyle best.

Is There Anything Roku Can’t Do?

It’s not foolproof. Even with the rise in Roku’s popularity in recent months, it still is working daily to improve its functionality to make itself an indispensable part of your cord cutting toolkit. While it offers a lot of benefits and options, there still remains the reality that it isn’t ready to do it all, yet

As an example, because it’s not a subscription service, for each TV in your home, you will still need to purchase a separate Roku device. Also, even while it maintains an excellent catalog of channels and apps, you still won’t really be able to record certain titles, making it impractical if you are used to watching and saving your favorite content online.

Thankfully, it’s easy to take a great thing, and make it even better.

The Perfect Match-up

When you pair up Roku with Replay Media Catcher, you have a great option to watch and record virtually any content online; perfect if you are looking for a first step in freedom from your service provider. Roku gives you nearly endless options to find your favorites online, and Replay Media Catcher makes it possible to stream them and save them. Even if you are still happily connected with your cable company and just want more options, this power duo acts as the perfect team player to make your viewing options even greater.

Get Replay Media Catcher

Ready to take it to the next level? Check out Roku, and get Replay Media Catcher and get ready to tap into a whole new world of streaming options. Happy hunting.

In fact, there are a lot of documentaries and series out there that tell the stories of true crimes so unimaginable, you would have to see them to believe them.

Online streaming giants Netflix and Amazon Prime Video offer up their fair share of creepy content; from the most unsettling and disturbing creature features of neglect, to some of the most vile acts of the human psyche. If you are a true crime connoisseur, then you definitely won’t want to miss the chance to capture the most shocking documentaries and series to watch again and dissect with friends.

Some of our most frightening picks that are streaming online now?

The Moors Murders (2009)

When children in the English city of Manchester started disappearing in the mid-1960s, hardly anyone could believe that couple Ian Brady and Myrna Hindly could be behind such acts of depravity. When residents began to learn the fate of the missing children and teens, the whole country was held captive of their own disbelief. In a dramatized documentary that is sure to shock you, the events are retold in shocking detail. Not to be missed.

The Keepers (2017)

Catch “The Keepers” on Netflix!

In this uber-popular series from Netflix, this documentary follows the as yet unsolved murder of Sister Cathy Cesnik, a popular nun and teacher at Archbishop Keough Catholic school. As if the crime wasn’t horrifying enough, the speculation behind Sister Cathy’s murder will shock you.  She may have been a target for the ultimate sinister motive: She was on the verge of exposing a possible sex-crime ring within the Catholic church. A must-watch selection that will have you questioning everything you believe in.

Evil Genius: the True Story of America’s Most Diabolical Bank Heist (2018)

Catch “Evil Genius: the True Story of America’s Most Diabolical Bank Heist” on Netflix!

In a series that has you second-guessing if such occurrences could happen in real life (Yes, they can), “Evil Genius” recounts the bizarre events that began with a pizza delivery man holding up a bank, eventually leading to him exploding in police custody as a collar bomb detonates, leaving investigators searching for answers. A grisly crime that should be enough to create its own series is only the beginning here. What looked initially like a bank heist gone wrong suddenly takes twists and turns as the plot thickens and involves more and more complex suspects. Was he a criminal or actually a hostage? Make sure to check out this limited series with an explosive payoff as the real mastermind is revealed.

Cropsey (2009)
